Bangladesh has different energy policy documents that set different energy ambitions. For example, the Integrated Energy and Power Master Plan (IEPMP) and the Climate Prosperity Plan (CPP) have various renewable energy targets. One of the severe effects of Bangladesh's current Integrated Energy and Power Master Plan (IEPMP) is creating a fossil fuel lock-in situation. The energy mixes proposed in the IEPMP will make Bangladesh more import-dependent, exposing it to the high price volatility of the international energy market and raising concern over foreign currency reserves. Over the recent years in energy sector, the country has paid massive subsidies amounting to Tk 809.7 billion, according to a report by Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA)'s Shafiqul Alam.
