CJ Miller LLC is looking for a skilled Equipment Road Mechanic to join our team and keep our fleet running strong! If you have a knack for diagnosing and repairing a wide variety of equipment—from excavators to paving machinery—and enjoy working independently in the field, we’d love to hear from you! As an Equipment Road Mechanic, you'll tackle moderate to complex repairs right on-site, using a fully equipped service truck. You’ll handle everything from hydraulic systems to electrical components and work closely with foremen and our parts team to get equipment back up and running. Safety and quality are key, so attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols are a must! A little late in the year, but definitely a big deal - our Barrick Quarry is celebrating 150 years of continuous operation! We've digitized some of our historical photos and wanted to share some incredible imagery from the past 15 decades. Samuel William Barrick (pictured) started S.W. Barrick & Sons in 1874 selling lump lime to farmers from 3 pot kilns at his quarry. The business grew and was operated by multiple generations of the Barrick family (who are still local and have run a successful garden center for the past 35 years just down the road from the quarry). The Barrick Quarry continued to produce lime into the late 1980s while starting to explore crushed stone. In 1986 Laurel Sand & Gravel acquired the quarry from the Barrick family and shifted focus to the aggregate business by 1988. 1987 was the last year of lime production, by 1989 a new plant was built and the quarry fully transitioned into the crushed stone business. In the mid-1990s Laurel Sand & Gravel opened a rail terminal in Finksburg, MD that significantly grew volume for the quarry. Then in 1999 Laurel Sand & Gravel acquired LeGore Quarry just across Legore Bridge Rd from Barrick Quarry. This quarry (also pictured) had been operated continuously from 1861 to 1999. LeGore Quarry started as a lime business built by the LeGore family (also building the famous LeGore Bridge!), later Phoenix Inc. began shifting LeGore Quarry towards aggregates in the 1970s. Phoenix sold to Martin Marietta in 1993 and Martin Marietta to Laurel Sand & Gravel by the end of the century. After a 20+ year hiatus Barrick Quarry constructed underground tunnels to the LeGore Quarry and began mining the site again in 2020. It took the efforts of 1,000s of people to make 150 years a reality (including onsite customers Thomas, Bennett & Hunter, Inc. and C.J.
