November has been about connecting. A strong reminder that we’re doing this work, together. Very thankful to California Council of Community Behavioral Health Agencies (CBHA) for letting me talk about school mental health, to CalMatters for the robust discussion on parity, to the dedicated physicians of California Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and a final special thanks to Breaking Barriers California for such a great discussion on integration.

We need greater diversity and inclusion in the healthcare workforce. As a county physician, I see firsthand how our public health system delivers better outcomes when our workforce reflects the people we serve. At this year's California Council of Community Behavioral Health Agencies (CBHA) Conference, I spoke on this topic with Brie Reimann and Al Rowlett, in a panel moderated by Janet Coffman. Together, we explored our leadership strategy in workforce recruitment and retention in the behavioral health field. I shared how Nunchi Health has been able to expand mental health awareness among immigrant-origin and minority communities and how our work prepares young people to support each other in their mental health. I hold a deep belief that our voices are powerful because they are so unique. We have the tools we need to be kinder each day. How do we make sure our young people know that? #CBHA is proud to be represented at CalNonprofits' Policy Conference: Strong Nonprofits, Stronger California today in Los Angeles! We reflected on impactful policy and advocacy solutions to sustain and strengthen nonprofits. CBHA's CEO, Dr. Clark Harvey was on a panel discussing next steps for building on our legislative priorities with fellow panelists Fresno Building Healthy Communities, Assemblymember Gregg Hart and Jennifer Fearing. We are grateful to be participating in such an energizing event with our fellow #behavioralhealth community!

Had a great time at the Whole Person Care Conference hosted by California Institute for Behavioral Health Solutions California Council of Community Behavioral Health Agencies (CBHA) and California Primary Care Association. Being around community was very important, especially given this past week’s events. It was great seeing my colleagues on the CYBHI Scaling EBPs/CDEPs Grant project in person, reconnecting with long time friends and making new connections. I enjoyed learning about the amazing work being done to help communities across the state and the US to make behavioral health more accessible and effective to ultimately improve the quality of life for all. Thank you to all the speakers and presenters for your uplifting and inspiring messages. I feel more encouraged than ever to continue to help behavioral health organizations leverage their data to make their programs and practices more effective, sustainable, and impactful.

Last week, ACHSA staff attended the 2024 Behavioral Health Conference: Whole System Care: Practice, Innovation, and Policy Implementation. The conference covered essential discussions on topics critical to advancing behavioral health, from workforce development and crisis intervention to innovations in behavioral health and justice-involved care. Thank you to the California Council of Community Behavioral Health Agencies (CBHA), California Institute for Behavioral Health Solutions, and California Primary Care Association for hosting us!
