FinCEN Not Issuing Fines or Penalties in Connection with Beneficial Ownership Information Reporting Deadlines Immediate release: February 27, 2025 WASHINGTON––Today, FinCEN announced that it will not issue any fines or penalties or take any other enforcement actions against any companies based on any failure to file or update beneficial ownership information (BOI) reports pursuant to the Corporate Transparency Act by the current deadlines. No fines or penalties will be issued, and no enforcement actions will be taken, until a forthcoming interim final rule becomes effective and the new relevant due dates in the interim final rule have passed. This announcement continues Treasury’s commitment to reducing regulatory burden on businesses, as well as prioritizing under the Corporate Transparency Act reporting of BOI for those entities that pose the most significant law enforcement and national security risks. No later than March 21, 2025, FinCEN intends to issue an interim final rule that extends BOI reporting deadlines, recognizing the need to provide new guidance and clarity as quickly as possible, while ensuring that BOI that is highly useful to important national security, intelligence, and law enforcement activities is reported. https://fincen.gov/

Today, the award-winning Illinois chapter of the Community Associations Institute hosted its 2025 Conference and Expo and our record-breaking crowd has brought fantastic energy to the trade show. FirstService Residential is a proud sponsor of today’s educational sessions! I was thrilled to join a panel of esteemed attorneys including Kerry Bartell of Kovitz Shifrin Nesbit, Gabriella Comstock of KEOUGH & MOODY, P.C., Nicholas Bartzen of Bartzen Rosenlund Kasten, and James "Jamie" Stevens of Burke Warren. Thank you to Regional Director Jennifer Medja Sanchez for representing FirstService Residential so well as our moderator. We raised almost $2,500 in direct and matching gifts for the Illinois Legislative Action Committee! We are also proud to see our own Regional Director Randy G. be announced as President-Elect of the CAI Illinois Board of Directors and take his board oath. We know he will do a great job helping lead the chapter in the coming years. Our entire leadership team including EVP John Santoro, SVP Barbara Al-Saigh, and VPs Ian Novak and Marla Jackson is here joining dozens of our licensed managers in key education classes on important topics and dozens of best practices. It’s exciting to see such enthusiasm from the professionals in our field!

The sun is coming out in the Illinois state capital today, just in time for the Illinois Legislative Action Committee 2025 Lobby Day! Our volunteer leaders including my co-chair Patrick Costello, committee members Christine Friend, Cindy Fitts MBA, CIRMS, Rose J., Brian Palm, CAI Board Members Kathy Kahl, CIRMS, EBP and Robyn Kish, and our friend and national Senior Director with the CAI Government and Public Affairs team Phoebe E. Neseth, Esq. pounded the pavement today meeting with legislators on both sides of the aisle on behalf of the community association ownership model. In addition to discussing the need for sensible reserve study legislation, we discussed the importance of community education and responsible governance. We appreciated the time and dedication from our volunteers and look forward to continuing these conversations throughout this legislative session!
