Ever had a customer wonder why their GPS data is suddenly way off? It’s not always the telematics device—it might be something you’re overlooking. 👀 You check the system, and everything looks good, -- except for the HDOP reading. When your vehicle is reporting inaccurate locations, HDOP (Horizontal Dilution of Precision) could be the culprit. Poor satellite spacing can cause significant location errors, even if everything else in your telematics system is working perfectly. Here’s how it works: 🛰️ GPS relies on signals from multiple satellites to determine location. The more spread out those satellites are, the better the accuracy. ⚠️ If satellites are too close together, the system struggles to triangulate your vehicle’s exact position, leading to higher HDOP and poor accuracy. 📍 The result? Your vehicle might show up in the wrong place, even though your hardware and software are fully functional. Why does this matter? For fleet managers and telematics providers, understanding HDOP is key to ensuring reliable, accurate tracking. Ignoring it can lead to frustrated customers, missed deliveries, and lost time.
