One of the things I loved most about the CaDC webinar yesterday with Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District about their district metered areas is the way their presentation highlights a "full stack" approach to using data analytics to really drive lasting, impactful management improvements. Doing data right requires so much more than just one-off flashy dashboards or reports. As highlighted in the webinar, EVMWD has gotten the results they have because they invested in: * Sensing - by deploying AMI throughout their service area and ensuring they had full access to this data * Data management - combining everything from water consumption, asset data, production data, customer and GIS data in a way that makes sense * Talent - like their award-winning GIS staff and many others * Collaboration - by breaking down silos and enabling close collaboration between operations and IT, they can rapidly track down and resolve issues as they arise When all of this comes together, they can go beyond just intuition or "best practice" and instead turn to smart prioritization of resources that is not otherwise possible. As such, you could say that, in this application, EVMWD is at level 4 in the "AI hierarchy of needs" (https://lnkd.in/gG-PeHeM) and they are now in a position where they could, if it made sense, start layering in AI/ML into their water loss management.
