Today, CALSTART joined Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments IKEA USA Moms Clean Air Force and other local community members and business leaders in South Philadelphia for a Clean Trucks PA Coalition event celebrating Pennsylvania’s progress on sustainable freight while urging Governor Josh Shapiro to finalize rulemaking for the Advanced Clean Trucks (ACT) standards. “The clean truck industry is growing rapidly, and Pennsylvania is poised to benefit,” said Jordan Stutt, CALSTART’s Senior Director for the Northeast Region. “Embracing this emerging industry will bring new jobs, cleaner air, and lower costs to businesses and communities across the state. It’s now crucial for policymakers to support strong programs for accelerated deployment of cleaner trucks.” The event showcased two models of zero-emission trucks—a Peterbilt Motors Company 579EV class 8 tractor truck, courtesy of Hunter Trucks, and a Ford eTransit delivery van, courtesy of IKEA—showing a glimpse into what is currently available on the market today (more than 197 different models of zero-emission medium- and heavy-duty vehicles from 72 manufacturers). Speaking to the news outlet CoStar News CALSTART’s Vice President and Bus Initiative Lead, Jared Schnader, weighed in on static wireless charging that is part of UCLA ‘s first-in-state electric road system for the school’s new fleet of electric passenger shuttles and heavy-duty buses: “If adopted widely, this innovation could revolutionize transit electrification.” The university is partnering with Electreon a wireless charging company, and CALSTART with funding from the state. These efforts not only support California’s own goals but also serve as a model for other regions to expand their accessibility to clean transportation.
