Great insights from Corey Scheip, Ph.D. on his use of data processed by Cambio Earth to map landslides!
Mapping landslides on high resolution lidar - I find this an incredibly cathartic and enjoyable task. This intersection of art and science takes experience, interpretation, and a bit of arm waving. If you want a very clear and definitive answer in your work, I do not suggest you try mapping landslides 👨🎨 😂 . But hey, the feeling you get when you map one? e.g., "am I the first person in the world to know about this landslide?" I mean COME.ON. 🥰 Now imagine you have *clean* and *beautiful* lidar change detection data between two datasets? Noise is still present here and there, but by far, most of what you see is real change that occurred on the ground (...soothing sounds heard in the distance, your chest falls with a deep sigh of relief...). Not only can you find the landslide, but you can quickly tell if it has moved recently? 🤤 One step closer to unlocking the secrets of how this big rock called Earth evolves and responds. So cool. Here's a video I made Friday of how I am using some beautiful data that Cambio Earth processed for us to map landslides that moved between 2017-2023 as part of a study to learn more about the July 2022 landslide event in Eastern Kentucky. To say I am enjoying this process is an understatement. So enlightening. Can't wait to share these results further.
