From Big Tech dominance to bread price scandals and AI-driven rent hikes, Canada’s Competition Bureau is making bold moves to tackle monopolies and protect consumers. Google’s AdTech Challenge: A landmark case accuses Google of monopolizing online advertising, locking businesses into its ecosystem and inflating costs. With over 200 billion ad transactions flowing through Google’s systems last year, the stakes couldn’t be higher. Bread Price-Fixing Fallout: Grupo Bimbo’s $2 billion lawsuit against Maple Leaf Foods highlights gaps in accountability from Canada’s largest price-fixing scandal. AI in Housing: Allegations of algorithmic rent collusion put corporate landlords under scrutiny. Investigations into AI tools like YieldStar may reveal how technology drives up costs in a housing market already under pressure. Canada is raising the stakes in the fight for fairer markets and consumer protection. Is this the decisive shift needed to curb concentrated power, or just the start of a larger battle? #FairMarkets #CompetitionPolicy #AntitrustReform

“The Competition Bureau’s decision to pursue legal action against Google’s dominance in online advertising represents a turning point for competition in Canada,” said Keldon Bester, Executive Director of CAMP. “Online advertising is a critical tool for every Canadian business trying to reach their customers, and monopolization of this market means inflated costs that are ultimately borne by consumers." https://lnkd.in/gDNcq6pg

Canada’s relationship with private equity is complex. Canadian pension funds are some of the largest private equity investors, with the Canada Pension Plan being one of the largest private equity investors in the world. The portfolios of international pension funds are also increasingly linked to external private equity firms, however Canada is disproportionately represented amongst these international pension funds. Now more than ever Canada needs an economy that is geared towards building the great companies of tomorrow rather than hollowing out the companies of yesterday. 🌐 Read CAMP's new report, The Private Equity Playbook, and learn more via the link below: 🔗 https://loom.ly/nddWkco 🎧 Prefer an audio version? The private equity industry owns more businesses than all those listed on all the US stock exchanges combined. In fact, private equity portfolios cut across industries from consumer products, real estate, healthcare, manufacturing and insurance, technology and more.
