Giving medical devices a voice and letting medical data be heard
About us
We are a medical data company seeking to improve healthcare outcomes through the continuous, passive collection and analysis of data derived primarily from “smart” implantable medical devices that are proposed to report on function, diagnostic information, patient activity, complications and treatment failure for up to ten years – all without significant patient or physician involvement. Hundreds of millions of people both in the United States and around the world rely on medical devices to maintain their health and improve their quality of life, with tens of millions more receiving implanted devices every year. Information on how these devices function once implanted is a valuable source of medical data. Yet, implanted devices typically “go dark” as soon as the last suture is closed; and, for those few devices that are capable of transmitting data, the data is often underutilized by the physician and the patient. We believe that smart, connected medical devices and data services that can use the information obtained to guide patient therapy, have the potential to provide clinicians with entirely new sources of relevant, accurate and timely information that they can use to make better, earlier care decisions. Our mission at Canary Medical is to give medical devices a voice and to let the medical data be heard.

New data shows that patient recovery metrics gathered from Persona IQ are helping to predict poor recovery weeks in advance. Check out this Journal of Arthroplasty article to learn more.
Smart TKA implants with sensor technology embedded within the implant can record data that tracks recovery. This study of gait metrics and step count found the screening gait test at 6wks can predict patients who will likely have poor recovery at 12wks. https://lnkd.in/gnzH6jBx

Nice to be included in the ever-expanding universe of digital health and AI companies.
The Medical Futurist, Author of Your Map to the Future, Global Keynote Speaker, and Futurist Researcher
Here are the top 100 digital health and AI companies to watch in 2025 by The Medical Futurist. Every year, I curate a compilation of companies in medical and healthcare technologies that I think deserve your attention throughout the year. I've organized the companies into primary and secondary categories based on what field it is the closest to. The infographic thus is complex but it's really worth diving into the details! Obviously, I couldn't select every great company out there. This list was carefully chosen from hundreds of companies and submissions, and this compilation reflects my personal opinion and methodology in their selection. I try to check out every major company announcement, press release, study and breakthrough throughout the year, hence this selection. If you are interested in knowing why this or that company was selected, please ask in a comment and I'll explain. Disclosure: We don’t accept any sponsorship or financial support. We do not have any interest or connection in any of the companies listed in the infographic either. Selection criteria and methodology: Our analyses are based on discussions we have with actors across the digital health landscape. From startups through government authorities to prominent innovators, we determined the major features that a company venturing into digital health and AI must possess to hold potential in the field. The key values we look at are as follows: - Mindset for innovation - Truly disruptive technology - Viable business model - Clear dedication to digital health or healthcare AI I hope you will find the infographic useful! Canary CEO Bill Hunter is featured in the latest edition of Medsider Mentors. He shares our vision for the future of healthcare leveraging smart implantable sensors and the use of AI to offer clinicians and care teams unique insights into patient recovery. #techmed
“We don't have enough healthcare workers to attend to everything. If you can offer a safe, non-invasive, monitoring device that provides the patient with some at-home knowledge, that's the way things are going to have to go.” (Bill Hunter, CEO of Canary Medical Inc.) “Partnerships have to be set up so that both parties are going to win. If you end up with a really great deal, but if your partner isn’t going to be successful, if they aren't able to make money at some point, then everything is going to fall apart.” (Dan Nardi, CEO of Reimagine Care) “There's got to be stage-appropriate funding, strategy, boards, etc. Stage-appropriate everything. And it changes with every stage as you evolve. Once you've achieved a certain target and met a goal, you need to pivot.” (Sumit Nagpal, CEO of Cherish) Medsider Mentors Volume VII is here! It’s our latest e-book summarizing the best of the best Medsider interviews from the last several months. Dig in for insights from Scott Nelson and 3 incredible #medtech entrepreneurs: 🏥 Consider the real-world impact of your innovation on the healthcare system and the workflow of providers. Think about streamlining processes, reducing hospital stays, and empowering both patients and physicians. 🌟 Focus on building strategic alliances that leverage both your core competencies and those of your partners. Prioritize long-term, win-win collaborations over short-term gains. 🔁 Draw inspiration from the successes and failures of other adjacent industries. Try to see the recurring patterns and simplify them to see if they translate to your domain. Available for premium members for free, check out the full edition of Medsider Mentors - Volume VII (link in comments) to learn from founders and CEOs of the hottest #medicaldevices and health technology startups in the world.

Mark Bezjak, President of the Americas, and Joe Urban, President of Knees for Zimmer Biomet, joined me in One60 Studios to discuss how Zimmer Biomet continues to drive forward and set the pace as a global medtech leader. We discussed how Zimmer Biomet’s bold vision for maintaining its leadership in medtech embraces and is introducing first-in-category enabling technologies in pre-op, intra-op, and post-op care for their patients.
