Thanks for having us, Koen! We appreciate your continued support of the agroforestry industry🌱
🌳 We have been talking about agroforestry systems and investing before (with Brett Hundley, CFA, Jonas Steinfeld, PhD, Jan-Gisbert Schultze, Sven Verwiel and many more): #trees were the answer to whatever your question was. But... how do you start an #agroforestry industry right in the middle of the belly of the beast, the American Midwest, where corn and soy are everywhere, leases are 1 to 3 years, and there are no trees as far as the eye can see? And especially here, trees are needed, not as magical #carbon sequestration tools, but as #climate adaptation, against erosion, wind breaks, to protect animals and crops, nutrient leaking into streams, and, of course, to produce a lot of food integrated into the fields. What does it take to build an agroforestry industry here? What about finance, equipment, planting, seedlings, tree nursery, harvesting, markets, and much more? All crucial topics we dive deep in our conversation with Kevin Wolz, CEO of Canopy Farm Management and former founder of the Savanna Institute. https://lnkd.in/dm_GwJwf

It's an honor to have been announced as one of THRIVE's Global Innovators of 2024 within the Soil Health & Biodiversity category, amidst so many other truly transformative companies working across food, agriculture, and climate. At Canopy, we remain resolutely committed to the power of tree crops and agroforestry practices in modern agriculture. Beyond promoting soil health and biodiversity, tree crops and agroforestry practices contribute to climate change mitigation through carbon drawdown and climate change adaptation by protecting land from extreme weather events. Tree crops also provide farm income diversification through the cultivation of specialty, nutrient-dense tree crops (our favorites being chestnuts and currants). As a leader in providing mechanized, commercial-scale tree planting and management services in the Midwest, Canopy offers farmers and landowners a new alternative for their land, a second story. #Agroforestry #SustatianableAgriculutre #FarmWithTrees

Last month, Canopy Farm Management announced the launch of Canopy Compass, a web-based, crop suitability mapping and farm analysis tool developed in partnership with the Savanna Institute. You can explore this tool for yourself at https://lnkd.in/gMbAaqh6 "Our mission is to catalyze the development and adoption of resilient, scalable agroforestry," said Monika Shea, PhD, Landscape Ecologist at the Savanna Institute. "After four years of research and analysis, we are thrilled to make this data widely accessible. The maps will inform planning and decision making at multiple scales, supporting the success of agroforestry tree and shrub plantings and all the associated positive economic and environmental outcomes."
