What a fantastic 2024 Live Racing Season at Canterbury Park! Wrapping up our 30th season of horse racing, we reflect on the incredible summer filled with excitement. The extended race meet featured larger field sizes and a variety of engaging events like the taste of Canterbury, a rodeo, many great bands featured during our concert series, and comedy shows, embodying the spirit of Canterbury Park. Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to our dedicated team members and loyal fans for their invaluable contributions to our numerous successes and the endless fun we experienced together. While bidding farewell to the horses, we eagerly anticipate the upcoming card casino tournaments and a lineup of entertaining events to keep us engaged until the horses return. This year we were able to provide multiple internships with our Culinary team through Future, Ready, Workforce grant internship opportunity thanks to the Shakopee Chamber & Visitors Bureau. We are happy to be a part of these opportunities and are excited to share a success story below! We are thankful for our partnerships with the Shakopee Chamber & Visitors Bureau and Shakopee Public Schools.
#Workforce Success Story Ahead! Maddie Anderson, a 2023 Shakopee Public Schools graduate, has already achieved significant milestones in her young career. Originally exploring psychology, Maddie found her passion in the culinary world with an internship at Canterbury Park through the Future, Ready, Workforce grant internship opportunity. Maddie demonstrated her dedication and talent early into her internship. Maddie loves the dynamic environment at Canterbury and values her team, whom she describes as skilled and supportive mentors. Her coworkers note that she is highly teachable, quick to learn from her mistakes, and resilient under pressure. Reflecting on her journey, Maddie cites the physical and mental demands of the culinary industry as her greatest challenge. "The start was rough," she shares, acknowledging the mental motivation and stamina required to excel. Yet, each day she learns more about her capabilities and pushes through obstacles with determination. Currently, she is completing her first year in the culinary program at Hennepin Technical College, balancing a rigorous schedule as a full-time student. On weekends, she works at Canterbury, where her role has offered hands-on experience in various culinary tasks—from prepping grab-and-go items to working on the line and supporting catering events. Looking forward, Maddie is excited to complete her culinary program and build on the skills she’s honed through her education and real-world experience. With a strong foundation, a dedicated team, and an unrelenting drive, Maddie is poised for a successful career in the culinary arts. The Future, Ready, Workforce internships are made possible through partnership with Shakopee Chamber & Visitors Bureau and Shakopee Schools. The saddest part of summer ending? Saying goodbye to our interns. Over the past few months they’ve learned a lot and made real contributions to our company and community. At the end of their internship they presented a project showcasing their experiences and learning opportunities that they walked away with. It was fun to see their internship come full circle and what they took away from their experiences. We are honored to be a part of their career development and know they will be continue to do great things! Thank you to our 2024 Canterbury Park Summer Interns! We had a great time at our recent company get together! Team members and their families and friends were invited to come together on a beautiful summer night where we had food catered by Mr. Pig Stuff and live music from the band SWAG! Other activities included a corn hole tournament, casino Olympics, backside tours, bouncy house, face painting, prize drawings, and even a friendly game of tug of war to finish out the night. We had so much fun and are so thankful for our team members!!
