Thank You to Our Water Heroes As Los Angeles faces one of the most destructive and massive fire storms in history, we want to acknowledge and thank all of the outstanding water professionals in the LA region. They are working continuously on the front lines to keep pump stations and water systems flowing so firefighters and residents have the water supplies they need. Water professionals are first responders. When firefighters roll to fight fires, so do we. On behalf of the California-Nevada Section of AWWA, we convey a heartfelt thank you for your unwavering dedication. We know you're out there, we know the conditions are challenging, and we know you're not giving up on maintaining safe, clean water for your community. Your fellow AWWA members, along with water professionals nationwide, are thinking about you during this historic emergency, and we look forward to hearing you are safe and back home very soon. Once everyone is safe and the fires are put out, we'll have time to analyze and review these events. As California and Nevada water professionals we've faced massive fires for decades and we're continually learning and improving. There will be stories of incredible bravery and heroism, and new ideas on how we can build water systems that are even more resilient and robust in the face of weather that changes rapidly from one extreme to another. It is the water professional’s oath: when duty calls, we'll be there as long as it takes to serve our community. We're looking into ways members can support these outstanding water professionals, and we'll share more details next week. Sincerely, Jim Elliott, Chair, California-Nevada Section of AWWA Sue Mosburg, Executive Director, California-Nevada Section of AWWA AP licensed photos: hydrant and fire truck by Christian Monterrosa, and a firefighter in Altadena Nic Coury.
