Access to quality, accessible and affordable, early education is critical for working families. We’re honored to support families in their childcare needs, and thankful to our tremendous staff for all that they do for these families! Thank you to the Eastern Bank Foundation (EBF) for their support of of mission!

We are grateful for this grant and for mentoring support from District Attorney Robert Galibois II and his office for the Y Achievers program. The Y Achievers program mentors high school students of color who are first in their family to pursue higher education post-graduation. Thanks to philanthropic donations, the Y is able to provide this program at no charge to students. Their investment in the youth of today will pay dividends now and in the future.

Another great step forward for the Don & Dottie Smith YMCA!

The YMCA Cape Cod is pleased to announce they are the recent recipient of the largest single capital donation in the organization's 58-year history. Local philanthropists Donald R. Smith and Pamela Burkes-Smith have donated $10 million to support the Y’s efforts to build a new YMCA branch for the Upper Cape. Located on Brick Kiln Road in Falmouth, the 68,000-square-foot branch will officially be named The Don & Dottie Smith YMCA.  Read more from CapeCod.com here: https://lnkd.in/dR6FrDNw

Y-USA Hunger Relief put out a call recently about the Y of Western North Carolina’s (Asheville) need for food. They operate a food warehouse and have a fleet of delivery vehicles. The structure and the fleet made it through the storm but their food supply did not and the Regional Food Bank was destroyed. As a result, their community is in great need. The team at YMCA of Greater Boston was contacted due to our extensive efforts in Hunger Relief. After discussing with YWNC their food wish list ( they support individuals who are diabetic and have other medically tailored needs which means they need specific foods) and learning that there was a passable route to get to them, the YGB team got to work. They ensured the weight limit, driver training, insurance, truck and driver availability, truck service, and GPS tracking, all in a matter of hours so they could rapidly mobilize. Wendy, April (Head of the Hunger Warehouse)  working with Paul and Jeremy (Head of Risk) mobilized this effort in a matter of hours to ensure that they could do this and do it responsibly. Ricardo Antunes, one of their Hunger Prevention drivers, and Sokthea Phay, Executive Director of Wang YMCA stepped up to share the 30 hours round trip to make delivery. They left at 6 am in the morning. When our colleague at YWNC heard YGB could make this happen on a call yesterday, she burst into happy, relieved tears. She said the only food a lot of people down there have is what the helicopters have dropped in. She particularly appreciated the pallet of almond milk for our llactose-intolerant friends.  Sokthea shared that he remembers during his childhood in Cambodia what it meant when the United Nations helicopters dropped that food and that was why he personally committed to making the trip. Y-USA’s Head of Hunger Relief wrote, “I can't tell you how proud I am of the Y family right now and inspired by them. WHAT A SUCCESS!!! In total, the Y was able to raise more than $100,000 for Y programs and scholarships for our community! This past Monday, the YMCA Cape Cod held its annual Golf Tournament and fundraiser, and what a success it was!! Thank you to all the members who bought raffle tickets and bid in the online auction! We had a gorgeous day at Willowbend Country Club with 192 golfers. Thank you to our event sponsor, Williams Building co. In total, the Y was able to raise more than $100,000 for Y programs and scholarships for our community! The online auction raised $6,625 and we raised more than $3,000 in raffle tickets. Winners have all been notified. Thank you to all who participated! Hope to see you all on the course next year!

As summer comes to a close and kids return to school, we want to thank L.L.Bean for giving the kids in our community a summer they will never forget. The scholarships L.L. Bean provided helped kids experience the outdoors and create memories that will last a lifetime. Some of our favorite trips this summer were Camp Harwich visiting the Natural History Museum, and Camp Firefly visiting Provincetown! Thank you L.L.
