For Black History Month, this Faces of Fairfax City episode features the Virginia MBDA Business Center, a bureau of the U.S. Department of Commerce, located at the Mason Enterprise Center - Fairfax, and its role in supporting minority and small business owners. Director Tommy L. Marks shares how the Business Center provides guidance, education, and access to financial resources to help businesses grow and thrive. “The number one challenge for minority businesses and small businesses is access to capital,” says Marks. I'm excited to announce that my business Ami J Creates® is officially certified as a Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) by the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC) ! A big thank you to the Capital Region Minority Supplier Development Council for all their support and guidance along the way. Being part of the NMSDC Emerging Young Entrepreneurs (EYE) 2024 cohort has played a huge role in getting us here, and I’m so grateful for the opportunity. This MBE certification is a big step forward for us—it opens up new doors, opportunities, and connections that will help us grow and make a bigger impact. I’m really looking forward to what’s ahead and to continuing to create opportunities for growth, collaboration, and innovation.
