❄️ Staying Safe & Productive While Working Outside in Cold Conditions ❄️ Winter is here, and for those of us in the demolition and excavation business, the cold weather doesn’t stop the work. However, it’s crucial to take the right steps to ensure safety and efficiency on-site. Here are some tips to prepare for working in these cold conditions: 1. Dress in Layers - Wear moisture-wicking base layers, insulating mid-layers, and waterproof outer layers. Don’t forget gloves, hats, and thermal socks to keep extremities warm. 2. Protect Equipment - Cold weather can affect machinery and tools. Ensure all equipment is winterized, keep fuel tanks full to avoid condensation, and regularly check for frost or ice buildup. 3. Stay Hydrated - It’s easy to forget to drink water when it’s cold, but staying hydrated is just as important in winter as in summer. Warm beverages like tea can help, but avoid excessive caffeine. 4. Warm-Up Breaks - Schedule regular breaks in a heated area to prevent prolonged exposure to cold temperatures. This helps avoid frostbite and hypothermia. 5. Inspect the Worksite - Look out for hazards like icy surfaces or snow-covered obstacles. Keep pathways clear and use de-icing products when necessary. 6. Communicate and Plan - Ensure everyone on-site understands the emergency procedures for cold-related conditions. Always have a plan for extreme weather days. At Cardinal Demolition and Excavating, safety is our top priority. By taking these precautions, we can keep our crews safe, productive, and ready to tackle any project—no matter the temperature.
