The editors at Carrier Management view claims adjusting as a very human job. The job of a catastrophe claims adjuster, in particular, requires empathy, critical decision-making and constant emotional engagement. And the emotional demands of the role can produce an all-too-human form of burnout—compassion fatigue. Insurance company claims team leaders: How do you recognize when your claims team members are dealing with emotional stress from working with people in crisis or secondary trauma? How do you help them cope? Claims professionals: What self-help tips do you have for your colleagues? #Insurance industry impact in the spotlight
Whoa! Fed Chairman Jerome Powell shares what he foresees in the future in Western states as a result of insurance flight from fire prone areas. While he sees it 10-15 years out, it’s more likely we will see it 1-2-3 years from now. The first assessment in decades happened this week - and it was a whopper. The prediction - as more insurers head for the exits, other will follow create a race to leave. “Those banks and insurance companies are pulling out of areas, coastal areas and … areas where there are a lot of fires,” Powell told the committee. “So what that’s going to mean is if you fast-forward 10 or 15 years, there are going to be regions of the country where you can’t get a mortgage. There won’t be ATMs, the banks won’t have branches and things like that.”

So-called ‘wildland-urban interface’ fires are on the rise but building codes and standards have long been based on fires that spread from building to building. To address this a professor has updated international standards for large outdoor fires. https://lnkd.in/gH2sny29
