Two more Case faculty members are joining the prestigious National Academy of Inventors. Polymer scientist Gary Wnek and pioneering biologist Arnold Caplan will be inducted in June as fellows, the highest professional distinction accorded solely to academic inventors. Wnek is chair of the Department of Macromolecular Science and Engineering at the Case School of Engineering and holds 38 U.S. patents. Caplan, who died in January, discovered mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), which became the basis for the success of virtually all regenerative therapies . https://lnkd.in/gmbHgZsk

Case’s champion of entrepreneurship, Bob Sopko, passed away unexpectedly Dec. 3. We join the campus community in its profound sense of loss. As leader of CWRU LaunchNet, Bob helped hundreds of students and alumni pursue startup dreams. For 11 consecutive years, he guided Case innovation teams to CES, the giant electronics trade show in Las Vegas. Meanwhile, he was a catalyst and connector in the entrepreneurial community of Greater Cleveland, beloved from Sears think[box] to JumpStart to the Youngstown Business Incubator.
