Updates

  • 🌟 As we step into 2025, let's reimagine what community care looks like in Miami. Together, we can build a city where everyone has access to quality healthcare, affordable housing, and economic opportunities – not just survive, but truly thrive in the face of our changing climate. Our resolution? To stand stronger together. To amplify the voices of our neighbors. To fight for the dignified future every Miamian deserves. Whether you're still eating soup joumou or heading to your local Three Kings parade – our strength lies in our unity. This year, we're committed to turning compassion into action, transforming individual struggles into collective victories. What's your vision for our community in 2025? Drop your resolution below ⬇️ Whether it's joining a climate leadership cohort, volunteering as a tax preparer or simply being there for your neighbors – every action counts. #MiamiCommunity #SocialJustice #MiamiNonprofit #FlaPol

  • 🏘️ Overtown's Future: Development with Dignity Click through to read the community's vision for true neighborhood transformation. This isn't just about buildings—it's about preserving a legacy, protecting residents, and creating genuine opportunity. Our community desires: • A true "right to return" for displaced residents • Community benefits agreements that prioritize local needs • Transparent, accountable development processes • Preservation of cultural heritage • Green spaces that honor Overtown's history • Economic opportunities rooted in local expertise As Nicole Crooks powerfully says: "Development should benefit the people who have been here the longest." Overtown isn't just a neighborhood to be "renewed"—it's a living, breathing community with deep roots and powerful stories. https://lnkd.in/ea6eRcq2 #Overtown #CommunityFirst #MiamiNeighborhoods #SocialJustice #HousingJustice

  • challenging problems 🤝 creative solutions Happy #ArtBasel week from our creative community! Together we’re generating solutions that center our own lived experiences and the needs of our neighbors. From waste disposal to bus routes, we’re building the power to make our ideas come to life. The activist and author Adrienne Maree Brown says we are in an “imagination battle.” “I often feel I am trapped inside someone’ else’s imagination, and I must engage my own imagination in order to break free.” This week and beyond let’s engage our imagination and capacity to create so that our communities can get one step closer to freedom. #MiamiDade #ClimateChange #HousingSolutions #HealthJustice

Last month, I had the honor of speaking at an International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) event here in Miami hosted by Global Ties Miami and the U.S. Department of State. I’m deeply humbled and grateful to the entire Global Ties team and the Department of State for inviting me back to share this message with leaders from around the world, alongside inspiring local champions like Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, Jane Gilbert, and rising young climate powerhouse Amanda Di Perna. This gathering was a powerful reminder (and call to action) that climate justice is not about top-down policy and decision-making. Real solutions are rooted in honoring Indigenous cultures and practices that repair past and pervasive harms. It’s about grounding our work in the love, wisdom, and lived experiences of frontline community members who carry the seeds essential for transformation. Special shout out to my Catalyst Miami family. Thankful for the gift of our walking the talk. We know that centering the most impacted in decision-making honors the generational wisdom and power essential to healing both our planet and our people. Gatherings like this reinvigorate me with hope—a hope that feels especially essential in a time such as this. I’m grateful to know we’re building "Beloved Communities” around the world-- where equity, well-being, and sustainability intersect. #SimplyGrateful
