Post-harvest losses in cassava farming (and farming generally) have always been a source of personal concern for me. Recent figures state that about 45% of all harvest is lost in Nigeria and many African countries due to insufficient processing capacity and lack of infrastructure. Seeing the hard work of farmers go to waste year after year is heartbreaking. This challenge inspired our $150 million cassava revolution agreement with the Ekiti State government earlier this year and the unveiling of Agbeyewa Farms’ 12-point agenda presented this week to representatives of the United States Agency For International Development (USAID). At Agbeyewa Farms (a Cavista Holdings portfolio company), we are not just growing cassava; we are building a sustainable future for agriculture in Nigeria and throughout Africa. Our vision includes empowering 1,500 farmers through innovative cooperatives, introducing state-of-the-art agro-processing facilities to reduce post-harvest losses, and developing the Agbeyewa Model Town — a community infrastructure plan that integrates schools, healthcare, housing, and transportation. I am very proud of the Agbeyewa team (led by Seyi (OSKA) Aiyeleso) and the Cavista Holdings team who are driving this vision, and for sharing plans with the USAID representatives. Cassava has the potential to drive economic growth, create jobs, and ensure food security for millions of Africans. Together with our partners and communities, we are determined to lead this cassava revolution and unlock Nigeria’s agricultural potential. #CassavaRevolution #AgbeyewaFarms #Sustainability #FoodSecurity #NigeriaRising #Cavista #USAID
