This time of the year means different things to everyone. Shawn Lockett, Analyst II, Customer Support Solutions, recalls a time where her family was able to create lifelong memories with only the simplest of things. “One year, circumstances were particularly challenging, and it seemed as though Christmas would not arrive at our home. My son was just two years old, and I had run out of ideas. In that moment, I was reminded of my own childhood, when we would venture into the woods to find a real tree, adorning it with cherished ornaments and crafting garlands from popcorn. In an instant, inspiration struck. I quickly dashed out and purchased an inexpensive Christmas tree from the dollar store. With my son in school, I gathered construction paper, glue, stickers, and popcorn. Together, we sat down to create our own decorations. The joy on his face as he cut, glued, and adorned the ornaments with stickers, along with stringing the popcorn, filled my heart with warmth. More than ten years have passed since that memorable Christmas, and we still cherish some of those handmade ornaments, proudly placing them on our tree each year. My heart swells with joy as I watch him decorate the tree with those creations, a testament to our shared creativity and the spirit of the season.”
