  • Nature's Path Foods and CFS are partnering together to elevate the power of #OrganicFarming, and to call on Congress to pass the #AgriculturalResilienceAct (ARA) in the upcoming #FarmBill. The #ARA is a groundbreaking piece of legislation that will give farmers the tools they need to farm sustainably, with organic front and center, so that the U.S. can reach net-zero agricultural emission by 2040. 🌍 Did you know that industrial agriculture accounts for approximately 17% of global greenhouse gas emissions? Industrial farming methods strip the soil and release harmful amounts of carbon into the atmosphere – to the tune of 𝟭.𝟱 𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗢𝟮 𝗮𝗻𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆. But it doesn’t have to be this way: organic farming offers a solution - it prioritizes soil health and carbon sequestration – sequestering up to 𝟮𝟱% 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 to build critical climate resilience. On top of that, organic avoids use of synthetic fertilizers and toxic pesticides linked to more greenhouse gas emissions, , protects biodiversity, and uses far less energy (around 45% less!). ✊ Join us TODAY! Tell Congress to pass the Agricultural Resilience Act (ARA) in the upcoming #FarmBill — 🔗 https://lnkd.in/e8TxRUst To learn more about #ARA and advocate for a Farm Bill that works for everyone, check out 👉 https://lnkd.in/gYSuNP5u

  • The work continues. At CFS, we’ve worked for over 25 years to win a more sustainable food system and safeguard our food, environment, and health—regardless of who’s in charge in Washington DC. Our mission to hold corporations accountable, protect natural resources, and advocate for transparent food systems is about something bigger than politics: it’s about the future of our shared home and the health of generations to come. And that strategy works–over the course of our 25 year history, we have won more than 75% of our cases. With your support, we can file new lawsuits, amplify our advocacy, challenge harmful policies, and empower communities to resist actions that put our environment at risk.   Thank you for standing with us, today and every day. ✊   In solidarity, Center for Food Safety Team

  • SIGN UP for our action alerts to support our work on neonics and beyond! 🔗 https://lnkd.in/ec47in6r Pesticide coated seeds are so deadly that just a single seed can kill a bird. ⚠️🐦⬛   A government loophole has allowed pesticide giants to sell these toxic seeds without regulation for so long that they now blanket 150 million acres of US farmland, polluting our soil, air, and water and causing mass bee die-offs. 💔   So we took the government to court. But then mega-corporations like Monsanto-Bayer and Corteva got the greenlight to intervene in our case, allowing them to send their army of attorneys to help the government try to beat us in court. Now our attorneys are up against the entire pesticide industry. We need your support more than ever!

  • ICYMI: A new bombshell study by scientists at CFS, Center for Biological Diversity, and Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) reveals how the EPA failed to protect the public from exposure to damaging neonicotinoid #pesticides. The study found that the EPA consistently made determinations about what levels of neonic exposure were “safe” for humans without enough data to support its conclusions. EPA even ignored studies provided by insecticide makers close to 20 years ago which revealed the chemicals could be harmful to animal brain development. This is especially concerning considering the needless use of neonics is on the rise -- as coatings on crop seeds, applications on lawns and gardens, parks and playgrounds, indoor bed bug products, and flea and tick treatments for pets.

🔔 TIME SENSITIVE ACTION ALERT 🔔 The 2018 Farm Bill expired on September 30, 2023. Rather than passing a new Farm Bill in 2023, Congress extended the Farm Bill for one year. *But that Farm Bill extension is also expired now!* Without Congressional action, core organic programs including the Organic Certification Cost Share Program will expire, leaving thousands of organic farmers with a huge net increase in their annual certification costs. The Organic Certification Cost Share Program will disappear in 2025 unless Congress passes a five-year Farm Bill with funding or includes sufficient funding in a stopgap bill this fall! Contact your Senators and Representative today to ask them to fund core organic programs in the Farm Bill. • CFS Victory! 🎊 Organic Stakeholders’ Statement on District Court’s Decision’s Ruling Denying Challenge to Organic “Grower Group” Certification 🌱 Early this week, the United States District Court for the District of Oregon ruled against a pending legal challenge to organic “grower group” certification, a longstanding practice codified in the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA’s) 2023 revisions to its rules applying the Organic Foods Production Act (OFPA). OFPA is the law governing organic farming standards and organic food labeling. The federal district court held that the plaintiff, a U.S. organic hazelnut grower, had failed to show how the lawful application of the challenged USDA grower group certification rule had injured his business and thus lacked standing. The organic stakeholders’ amicus brief explained how and why the certification system is a critical element supporting organic practices globally and for the inclusion of millions of smallholder farmers in the organic marketplace. The “grower group” organic farming certification system has been in operation for decades and is widely recognized internationally, enabling millions of low-income small farmers around the world to grow organically certified crops, which would otherwise not be financially or logistically viable. “Smallholder farmers play a vital role in our organic global supply chain, and this decision is a significant step in safeguarding their contributions. It ensures that these farmers can continue to participate in the organic global food system, safeguarding their livelihoods and the future of sustainable agriculture in rural farming communities around the world,” said Tony Bedard, CEO of Frontier Co-op, an amici in the case. • Besides longer ingredient lists and the proliferation of food additives, now up to 70% of genetically modified food in the supermarket is not labeled AT ALL 🚨🛒 thanks to a loophole that allows ‘highly refined’ foods that contain GMO ingredients to skip the labels! To stop corporations from hiding GMO ingredients from their customers, CFS filed a lawsuit to force USDA to require labeling of all GMO foods on the package. This lawsuit is our best hope to ensure we know when we’re buying GMO products, but we’ll need all the support we can get in our long fight ahead! ✍️ Add your name to our petition to spot GMOs in the grocery store. 🏷️ 🔗 https://lnkd.in/e9As9hXx 🎥: #intelligentwellbeing #GMOfree #nongmo #savesoil #regenag #toxicfree #toxicfreeliving #righttoknow #gmolabeling
