Center School’s Summer Learning and Enrichment Program offers an exciting four-week experience for students entering grades 1 through 8. With flexible options for morning-only or full-day participation, this program combines targeted literacy and math instruction with engaging enrichment activities. Each day begins with focused learning in literacy and mathematics that develops and builds essential skills, and ends with hands-on STEAM-inspired activities that spark curiosity and creativity. Center School, an independent school in Abington that is dedicated to supporting students with language-based learning differences, is proud to announce its recognition as a 2024 recipient of the Janet L. Hoopes Award. This esteemed award celebrates outstanding contributions by schools or individuals in the field of education for students with learning differences. Awarded annually by the International Dyslexia Association - PA Branch, the Janet L. Hoopes Award recognizes organizations and individuals who exemplify excellence in advancing the understanding and support of dyslexia and other language-based learning differences. Since 1989, Center School has been a pioneer and advocate in this field, offering specialized programming that transforms the lives of students and their families across the tri-state area. “I am honored to accept this award on behalf of Center School,” said Melinda Wawrzyniak, Center School’s Head of School. Wawrzyniak added, “Leading this incredible school and being a part of the progress we have made towards supporting students with dyslexia and other language-based learning disabilities are the proudest moments of my career. I am excited to see what the future holds for Center School."   This is not the first time that Center School has been presented with the Janet L. Hoopes Award.  In 2010, co-founder Kathleen “Kathy” Hunt was honored.  Sadly, Hunt passed away this year, so receiving this award was particularly special to the school.  It signifies that her legacy continues to live on in the students and families Center School serves.  As Center School continues to build upon Hunt’s legacy, the Janet L. Hoopes Award serves as a testament to its dedication to the importance of specialized education tailored to the needs of its learners. We were super excited to welcome back a Center School Alum, Michelle G. Michelle is living her dream and working as part of a production crew in Hollywood! As part of a special assembly, Michelle talked with students (5th-8th grade) about her experiences at Center School and how she used all of her tools to graduate high school, then college, and land her dream job in film.
