How is CMS assessing and addressing the health system’s impact on climate change? How can this improve patient health and reduce costs? The Decarbonization and Resilience Initiative will help us answer these questions when it launches as part of the Transforming Episode Accountability Model (TEAM) in 2026. This initiative will allow acute care hospitals to voluntarily report their greenhouse gas emissions and receive technical assistance to help them reduce their carbon footprint. To learn about this initiative, read the blog published in today’s JAMA Network: bit.ly/40CdhVd. CMS calculates financial benchmarks, or target prices, using CMS claims data and must regularly test new benchmarking methodologies to reflect the evolving health care landscape and policy priorities. Find out more about the principles the CMS Innovation Center uses to calculate financial benchmarks for the majority of Medicare models in a new Health Affairs Forefront blog “Improving CMS Financial Benchmarking: Lessons Learned by the Innovation Center”: https://lnkd.in/eTA8Y5Gc. Find out how the CMS Innovation Center uses lessons learned from past models to inform future model tests in a new blog released today. For example, the Transforming Episode Accountability Model (TEAM) was informed by previous episode-based payment models that generated both gross savings and increased discharges to home from the hospital. The blog also describes how we use what we learn from models to chart a path to what ultimately might be expanded or scaled nationally to Medicare and Medicaid programs. Read more in the “Success Models, Scaling Pathways and the CMS Innovation Center” blog: go.cms.gov/42cSFE3.
