Announced today: drug manufacturers for both of the FDA-approved gene therapies for sickle cell disease will participate in the Cell and Gene Therapy (CGT) Access Model. With agreements secured, CMS will engage states and territories that participate in the Medicaid Drug Rebate Program to help them decide whether to participate in the model. The CGT Access Model tests outcome-based agreements for cell and gene therapies with the aim to improve health outcomes, increase access to cell and gene therapies, and lower health care costs. These outcomes-based agreements will tie payments to whether the therapy improves health outcomes. CMS will provide technical assistance and data infrastructure to implement these agreements. This helps state Medicaid agencies have budget predictability and allows them to offer these innovative sickle-cell disease therapies to people with Medicaid. The FDA-approved therapies are LYFGENIA™ from bluebird bio and CASGEVY™ from Vertex Pharmaceuticals. #WhatDoYouValue most this #holiday season? With value-based care, you can choose how and where you receive care. For example, as part of the Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement (CJR) Model, a value-based care pilot program, patients can choose to recover at home after hip and knee replacement surgeries, rather than in a skilled nursing facility. We’re pleased to announce the finalized Increasing Organ Transplant Access Model as part of our commitment to improving #KidneyTransplant access and enhancing patient-centered care. This 6-year, mandatory model is designed to increase kidney transplants and make the transplant process more patient-focused. CMS reviewed 160 comments on the proposed rule and made significant revisions to the final rule of the model to reduce administrative burden on participating transplant hospitals and better position participants to support individuals with kidney disease. The model will start July 1, 2025. For more information visit the final rule: https://go.cms.gov/4197lU7 and model webpage: go.cms.gov/iota For a list of transplant hospitals selected to participate in the model: https://lnkd.in/e8ikdkYT.
