Cloud storage and services have the potential to transform the way governments deploy and scale their #DigitalPublicInfrastructure, but the path forward is far from straightforward. Digital Impact Alliance’s latest article explores the complex tensions African governments face when adopting cloud solutions – from safeguarding data sovereignty and navigating vendor lock-in to the broader political economy of data control. The article outlines five actionable recommendations, including hybrid approaches, public-private partnerships, and peer learning networks, to help governments strike the delicate balance between efficiency and sovereignty while delivering citizen-centric services. How can these recommendations shape future #DPI strategies in Africa and beyond? Gartner Research estimates that governments worldwide are expected to spend $800 billion on technology in 2024, but at what cost? Co-Develop CEO, CV Madhukar, highlights that the current model of siloed digitization risks putting many nations into long-term debt, especially the 160 countries representing 5.5 billion people who might need help to keep up. By shifting towards a ‘reuse, don’t rebuild’ approach, he argues can foster #DigitalPublicInfrastructure that’s more efficient, cost-effective, and beneficial for all. This approach enables countries to allocate resources more wisely, reducing debt risk, increasing innovation, and speeding up progress toward the #SDGs Read the full article here 👇 https://lnkd.in/eKJuRgk6 #DPI #DigitalTransformation #SDGs
