IMF bailouts have long come with painful austerity measures. However, a new category of IMF conditionalities, focused on governance reforms, presents the 3.3 billion people living in countries swept up in the current global debt crisis with something precious: hope and the possibility of a true pathway to financial stability. NEW BLOG POST! On #anticorruptionday read Leslie Tsai's new oped, co-authored with Beauty Emefa Narteh of the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC), on how the new IMF conditionalities offer an opportunity for anti-corruption champions and the IMF to partner to address corruption and promote accountability, to help countries break free from chronic debt cycles. #DebtCrisis #AntiCorruption #IMFReform #Governance https://lnkd.in/gy-YmX4g

🎉 Congratulations to the Chandler Institute of Governance and the Anti-Corruption Commission Zambia on formalizing their partnership to strengthen capacity, foster organizational development, and enhance anti-corruption systems!
Last week marked a significant milestone for CIG and Anti-Corruption Commission Zambia (ACC) as we embarked on a journey to collectively strengthen integrity institutions and foster cultures of integrity. We formalised our partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate on capacity building, organisational development, and enhancing anti-corruption systems. Following the MOU signing, we facilitated a four-day Organisational Diagnostic workshop in Lusaka. Some highlights from our workshop include: 🔹 22 ACC leaders participated in identifying opportunities to transform operations and build a culture of excellence. 🔹 Sessions led by our experts, Professor Kee Hean Soh and Mdm Beatrice Mwila, explored ways to amplify organisational strengths and navigate pathways for growth. This partnership underscores our mission to build trust in governance and accelerate meaningful progress. As we move forward, we are guided by the thoughtful reflection of ACC’s Acting Director General, Mrs. Monica Mwansa, who remarked: "The desired change is huge, but we are equal to the task. Together, we can achieve the transformation we desire."

💡 “It’s hard for an orchestrator of systems change to do their job if they’re perceived as competing for funding with the very partners they’re trying to support,” shares Tim Hanstad. What if this weren’t the case? What if orchestrators had the stable resources they need to facilitate collaboration and drive meaningful change? This thought-provoking idea is part of the latest Stanford Social Innovation Review cover feature. Mariah Levin, Sonila Cook, and Jordan Fabyanske explore how strong facilitation—supported by stable funding—can unlock transformational shifts in power, mindsets, norms, and policies. Narratives matter! Hear more about the importance of narratives from Tim Hanstad in this excerpt from Elevate Africa 2024 in Abuja where he connected with inspiring leaders working to reshape perceptions about Africa. Tim highlights the words of Tony O. Elumelu, C.F.R "The biggest challenge in attracting investment to Africa is the way it is perceived." The reality? Africa boasts an incredible pool of existing and emerging leaders, fully capable of solving its own challenges. Yet, outdated and problematic narratives persist and create a barrier to progress. It’s time the world sees Africa for what it truly is—a continent of solutions, opportunity, and leadership. https://lnkd.in/dh4naRpv #TheAfricaWeSee #NarrativeShift Weelevateafrica
Elevate Africa on Instagram: "Narratives matter! Tim Hanstad emphasizes the importance of Africans shaping their own stories. He points out that many of the narratives the world holds about Africa are not unique to our continent, making it even more crucial for us to take control of how we are perceived globally. We’ve reached a point where it’s up to us to define how the world sees Africa by shar

The #RuleOfLaw is a foundation for healthy, just, prosperous, and peaceful societies. Where it is strong, people thrive. Where it is lacking, people, communities, and entire societies falter. The recent release of World Justice Project's annual Rule of Law Index shows, unfortunately, that rule of law is declining in more countries than it is improving. That's bad news for the world. While the overall news is largely negative, there are glimmers of hope -- places and spaces where rule of law factors are improving. Let me note a few: - Corruption, as measured by WJP, is on the slow decline in most countries - Access to civil justice is slowly improving - Countries such as Poland, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Brazil, and Zambia are bucking the global rule of law recession and have seen overall improvement in the last year. What can we learn from them? - Finally, the overall rule of law declines have been getting smaller in recent years, suggesting the world could soon emerge from the rule of law recession Take 30 minutes to watch the launch event for the 2024 Rule of Law Index. Understand how rule of law is measured, hear about the trends, and learn from rule of law champions in #Poland and #Zambia. https://lnkd.in/gRjKykEA
