Growth often comes after the discomfort of change. But what if we could not only become more comfortable with change but transform our experience of it into something positive? Last week, I had the opportunity to take part in the Change Growth Accelerator Experience with Change Enthusiasm Global. I not only got tools to support others navigating change, but also a new perspective on my own experience of change. The insights I gained didn't just add to my knowledge, they transformed how I feel about change itself. I’ve explored several frameworks designed to help individuals manage emotions during change, many felt incomplete when it came to actionable strategies for handling both feelings and behaviors productively. At Hyper Island, we learned about the learning spiral and the idea that growth happens outside of our comfort zone, a concept I strongly believe in. But while it explains the process, it doesn’t provide guidance on managing the emotions that come with it. In an organization I worked with, after a major transformation we where introduced to the Kübler-Ross Change Curve to better understand our emotional responses. While it helped us process our feelings, it would have been more useful before the change took place, and it lacked tools for managing emotions. To improve emotional intelligence I've also studied frameworks like the ABC Model (Adversity, Belief, Consequence), a method for identifying and challenging beliefs about adversity, allowing us to shift our reactions. And RAIN (Recognize, Allow, Investigate, Nurture), a mindfulness-based approach for processing difficult emotions with self-compassion. Both offer valuable ways to manage emotions in the moment. However, they stop short of providing a structured way to transform emotions into positive action. The Change Enthusiast framework gave me new perspective because it goes beyond emotional awareness and offers a concrete tool and process to: 🚨 Take control of your emotions and see them as signals, not obstacles. 🔮 Reframe emotions as opportunities rather than roadblocks. 🌳 Build resilience over time. Each change experience becomes a chance to grow stronger and more adaptable. I walked away from the training more confident and inspired, ready to apply what I’ve learned in the next big change. One crucial insight from the book is that leaders experience change, too. As Cassandra Worthy emphasizes, leaders often focus on guiding others through change while forgetting to manage their own emotional response. Laïla von Alvensleben also reminded me that even if you, as a leader, are comfortable with change, those you lead may struggle. Developing these skills isn’t just for you, it’s about being better equipped to support others through transformation. I also walked away with COOL new ways to use the Emotion Wheel. If you made it this far, thanks for reading! If you’re curious about Change Enthusiasm, I’m happy to chat, and I highly recommend checking out their community.

An underestimated truth about speaking: The impact of our words is best elevated by our ability to LISTEN. Here are 3 things I’m hearing. As I’ve traveled the country this year doing this thing that I love, I’ve been very intentional to do more listening than speaking leaning heavily on insatiable curiosity. ➡️ Engaging in candid conversations with audience members from the stage ➡️ Continuing the conversation off the stage ➡️ Maintaining a dialogue with my clients and partners well beyond the keynote 3 things are very apparent: 1️⃣ Leaders are struggling. They’re experiencing… - Uncertainty driven by the geopolitical landscape - Disruption driven by AI evolution and integration - Volatility driven by shifting markets and customer demands - Ambiguity driven by multiple competing priorities to move at the speed demanded of them 2️⃣ Leaders want to get better at adapting to today’s reality of change They’re looking for… - Fresh frameworks, - Modern methodologies, and - Proven tools to arm themselves and their people to not just manage change but use it as their competitive advantage. 3️⃣ The old models aren’t working. It’s time we re-think what a ‘human-centric’ change solution really means. It’s time we get curious and question what’s really needed to support our people today. It’s time we listen more than we speak so that when we speak, the impact is truly felt. I’m grateful to all of you for sharing your journey, your struggles, and your desires. I’m grateful to continue laser focusing the Change Enthusiasm Global organization to rise to the urgent call for modern, research-backed, and data-based truly human-centric change solutions. Let’s grow. ♻️ Repost if it resonates Photo cred: Aaron Knipp Cicospace
