This week Energicity celebrated the commissioning two minigrid sites,in Totoquelleh and Farwenta, Gbarpolu County Liberia. These sites represent A LOT of firsts: Energicity's Liberian subsidiary Starlight Energy's first minigrids out of our 10 site portfolio in Liberia; the first minigrid sites for Beyond the Grid Fund for Africa program; and, the first renewable energy minigrid sites commissioned as part of #Liberia's compact with Mission 300.
What makes "firsts" exciting is that the promise they bring... like for Jum Ascott, our customer who used to spend 31,000 LRD per month to run his bar (~150 USD on his genset and solar home system). Now, with minigrid electricity and his high efficiency freezer he is leasing from Energicity- he will save 90% on his monthly expenses. And he is one of thousands and soon to be 100's of thousands to benefit from minigrid electricity as we pursue the vision of Mission 300 in Liberia and beyond.
I'm particularly grateful for our partners in the Liberian Government: the Rural Renewable Energy Agency in Liberia Executive Director Samuel Nagbe and Steven Payma and the Liberian Electricity Regulatory Commission. And always always always appreciate our funders Beyond the Grid Fund for Africa and investors Mirova SunFunder and The Schmidt Family Foundation.
And lastly thanks to the Starlight Energy and Energicity teams. You all inspire me each and every day.
