    Most acquisitions fail. A long list of (surprisingly consistent) tactical reasons explain why that has long been the case. The thing that doesn’t get explained as often is that a failed acquisition presents an enormous amount of risk for scale-ups when compared to industry giants. And an urgency to mitigate the daunting risks often leads companies to search for “good deals” or “great financial decisions.” As Copado CEO, Ted Elliott, notes so well in our Second Acts conversation: those are the ones that turn out as “horrible financial decisions.” What Ted advocates, instead, is a search that: Begins with actual customer pains, seeks deeper complimentary outcomes for both businesses, and looks at other potential ways in which the acquisition can produce long term value.
