CHARM ECSEL Project
Appliances, Electrical, and Electronics Manufacturing
This project has received funding from the ECSEL Joint Undertaking (JU) under grant agreement No 876362.
About us
The CHARM ECSEL JU project aims to develop industrial IoT solutions with an improved tolerance towards harsh industrial surroundings. Digitalisation of the European manufacturing industries is the key to their continuous renewal and competitiveness. Harsh environmental conditions in manufacturing processes and end user environment may slow down the opportunities brought by IoT (Internet of Things) and AI (Artificial Intelligence). The CHARM project is set to solve this challenge. The CHARM use case leaders come from six different manufacturing sectors: 1. Mining (Sandvik Mining and Construction Oy, FI) 2. Paper mills (Valmet Technologies Inc., FI) 3. Machining (Tornos SA, CH) 4. Solar panel manufacturing (Applied Materials Italia SRL, IT) 5. Nuclear power plant maintenance and decommissioning (ÚJV Řež, a. s., CZ) 6. Professional digital printing (Canon Production Printing Netherlands B.V.). The project will develop sensors for e.g. gas detection, high temperature and pressure, as well as advanced vision systems for real-time quality control and autonomous equipment for industrial applications. Electronics component packaging technologies beyond state-of-the-art will be used to ensure that the sensors are able to withstand the harsh conditions. The IoT systems will also include new solutions for wireless power transfer, connectivity and cybersecurity. This project has received funding from the ECSEL Joint Undertaking (JU) under grant agreement No 876362. The JU receives support from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme and Finland, Austria, Belgium, Czechia, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Netherlands, Poland, Switzerland.

🙏🏼 Thank you for this CHARM journey 🙏🏼 https://lnkd.in/dnj5HyrV
Last week with Grzegorz Janczyk as a Team from Łukasiewicz - Institute of Microelectronics and Photonics and Colleagues from CHARM ECSEL Project we spent in beautiful Prague in Czech Republic. Weather wasn’t perfect this time however Czech beer and my favorite meal - vyprazany syr a hranolky a tatarska omáčka was perfect as always. Our mission was to participate in final review meeting of the CHARM ECSEL Project. The meeting took place in fantastic location - Nuclear Research Institute ÚJV Řež, a. s. (Nuclear Research Institute Rez plc). Besides CHARM related presentation and UC's demonstrators demonstrations, definitely visit in this outstanding place was a most exciting Chips Joint Undertaking project meeting of all! Many thanks to Ladislav Horacek of the ÚJV Řež, a. s. (Nuclear Research Institute Rez plc) and to all the companions of this wonderful journey Mikael Sundholm, Eeva Viinikka, Anton Köck, Thijs Besseling, Antti Niemelä, Sebastiaan Kersjes,… and to the brilliant reviewers team Berta Ferrer Llosa, Krzysztof S. Berezowski, Ph. D., Sara Bocchio, and all our friends and contributors not mentioned here but hope they this message can reach out to them. 🤩 It is a wrap! The CHARM consortium started its last consortium meeting on 6th February, ending this ambitious 45-month project to find solutions for demanding industrial environments. Our gracious host was CSEM and Erika Györvary in the beautiful town of Neuchatel in Switzerland. The partners prepared and planned for the event to demonstrate their respective project achievements and results. During the project, the CHARM consortium partners have worked on six demanding industrial use cases: ☑ IoT for digital mining solutions ☑Condition monitoring of paper mill equipment ☑Real-time machining workpiece control system ☑Real-time monitoring of solar cell manufacturing line ☑Nuclear plant maintenance and decommissioning ☑Virtual prototyping professional digital printers It has been a great journey for all of us and we thank each consortium member for the dedication and hard work. Warmest of thanks also to Valmet and Heikki Kettunen as the coordinator for the CHARM project and Mikael Sundholm from Spinverse on the daily administration. #ecselcharm #consortium #euproject #harshenvironments
