Improving the Chesapeake Bay watershed through environmental education, community outreach, & on-the-ground restoration.
About us
The Chesapeake Bay Trust is a nonprofit, grantmaking organization dedicated to improving the waterways and other natural resources of Maryland and the Chesapeake Bay region. Our goal is to improve our watershed by focusing on three core objectives: environmental education, community outreach, and on-the-ground restoration. On average, the Trust awards, on average, $20-30 million per year in grants to better local communities and the Bay. We reach more than 250,000 individuals annually who are making a difference for our waters and for the natural resources of our region. Our reason is simple: we believe that getting individuals involved is the key to restoring the Chesapeake Bay and our rivers and streams. The Trust is supported by the sale of the Treasure the Chesapeake license plate, donations to the Chesapeake Bay and Endangered Species Fund on the Maryland State income tax form, donations from individuals and corporations, and partnerships with private foundations and federal, state, and local agencies such as Anne Arundel County. The Trust continually earns a 4-star charity rating, the highest possible by Charity Navigator, a national charity evaluator. Ninety-two cents of every dollar goes directly to projects and educational programs in the community.

As the year draws to a close, there’s no better time to reflect on the future we want to build — and the legacy we leave behind. At the Chesapeake Bay Trust, we believe that one of the most powerful ways to ensure a healthier, more resilient Chesapeake Bay is by investing in young environmental stewards. These future leaders are the key to solving the environmental challenges we face, and they are eager to make a difference. Whether it’s through engaging local students in environmental education, providing them with the tools to restore ecosystems, or empowering them to lead sustainability initiatives in their communities — we’re helping them become the next generation of environmental champions. With your support, we can continue to provide these transformative opportunities for young people across the region. Your generosity today will inspire tomorrow’s environmental leaders and ensure that the Chesapeake Bay remains vibrant and healthy for years to come. Donate before midnight to help us continue to empower young environmental stewards and ensure a healthier, more resilient Chesapeake Bay: https://lnkd.in/edhahPMW #EndOfYear #EndOfYearGiving #EnvironmentalGiving #ProtectTheBay #SupportChesapeakeBay #EmpoweringPeople #RestoringNature

At the Chesapeake Bay Trust, we believe that harnessing the power of local communities is key to addressing environmental challenges. Take, for example, a West Severna Park community along the Severn River. For years, this neighborhood struggled with the growing impacts of shoreline erosion and flooding. Determined to take action, they envisioned installing a living shoreline to protect their homes and restore the ecosystems our critter friends rely on. However, they needed additional support to bring their vision to life. Thanks to the generous support of donors and partners, we were able to provide the funding and resources necessary to complete the project. The result? A restored shoreline that reduces erosion, absorbs stormwater, and provides critical habitat for local wildlife. For every project we can fund, there are three more waiting for support. That’s why we need your help. Your generosity today will help us continue this vital work, strengthening shorelines, restoring habitats, and empowering communities to protect the Chesapeake Bay for generations to come. Donate before the new year to help us continue to address the challenges facing our shorelines: https://lnkd.in/edhahPMW #EndOfYear #EndOfYearGiving #EnvironmentalGiving #ProtectTheBay #SupportChesapeakeBay #EmpoweringPeople #RestoringNature
