Although most youth are in good health, some youth are at an increased risk for behaviors that can lead to poor health outcomes, such as high-risk substance use. The majority of adults who meet the criteria for having a substance use disorder started using substances during their teen and young adult years. • 15% of high school students reported using select illicit or injection drugs (i.e. cocaine, inhalants, heroin, methamphetamines, hallucinogens, or ecstasy) • 14% of students reported misusing prescription opioids But we can prevent it! Some protective factors for youth high-risk substance use include parent or family engagement, family support, parental disapproval of substance use and monitoring, and school connectedness. Holidays can bring mixed emotions, especially when dealing with mental health or substance use. This Thanksgiving, let's give thanks for not only what we have, but also for the strength we've shown in facing challenges. Remember, you're not alone. It’s okay to set boundaries, seek help, and take things one step at a time. You matter. Your journey matters. And it’s okay to ask for support when you need it. 💙 For local resources and support, visit chestnut.org or call 888.924.3786 #MentalHealthMatters #YouAreNotAlone #ThanksgivingGratitude #HealingJourney #SelfCare
