  • This January and February, chefs and restaurateurs across the city are stepping up to support the restaurant and hospitality industry in LA County in the wake of devastating wildfires by donating a portion of proceeds from special menu items towards recovery efforts. At Green City Market, we're proud to partner with many of the participating chefs and restaurants through our Culinary Connections program. Visit @chicagochefscook to view the full list of restaurants supporting the fundraiser (including dates and menu items), and shout out to these amazing teams making an impact beyond their local community and food system 👏💚

  • Great news! @phoenixbeantofu will be returning to GCM Avondale for the rest of the winter season! Jenny Yang, owner of Phoenix Bean since 2007, recognized the need to expand the availability of fresh tofu beyond the Asian community to include mainstream customers looking for healthy and tasty plant protein. All Phoenix Bean products are freshly made from non-GMO, Illinois-grown soybeans raised with no chemicals, pesticides, or fungicides. Jenny and her Phoenix Bean team produce naturally delicious tofu daily that are cholesterol-free, gluten-free, and contain no transfats, preservatives, or additives. Jenny is committed to food sustainability by sourcing local soybeans, minimizing waste during processing, and using energy- and water-efficient methods. By combining traditional handcrafting techniques with modern procedures, Phoenix Bean's tofu is consistently high in quality and nutrition-rich. Stock up on fresh tofu and delicious tofu bites starting this Saturday from 8 am-1 pm!

  • 🍓 What do apple tastings, squash ring tosses, and writing thank you letters to farmers all have in common? Empowering kids to learn where their food comes from! Kristina Navarro, our Edible Education Program Manager, helps our youngest Chicagoans connect with their local food system through various market-based programs like Club Sprouts and Farm to Market Field Trips. "I love seeing families return week after week — a reminder of how special our GCM community is and how important it is to keep our transformative programs going for young learners," says Kristina. Whether she's leading elementary schoolers on a tour through the market, stopping and introducing them to each vendor, or teaching kids about the versatility of ground cherries (and how delicious they are!), Kristina's work is rooted in bridging the knowledge gap and empowering today's youngest learners to become tomorrow’s advocates for a resilient, sustainable food system. Join us in supporting GCM programs like Edible Education by doubling your impact today and helping us reach the next generation of local food lovers in 2025! Your gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar through December 31. 🔗 Link in bio to donate and support the future of sustainable food.
