Our Mentors and Volunteers are an absolutely integral part of our work - making it possible for us to reach more Scholars and families than we ever could with just our staff alone. Because of that, each year, we honor our stand-out Mentors through the CS Ways Core Values Awards, and our exceptional Volunteers in the Volunteer of the Year Awards. The CS Ways Core Values Awards are awarded by nomination from the entire Chicago Scholars community, including staff, Scholars, and mentors. Winners represent one of the Chicago Scholars Ways Core Values: We Show Up, We Keep Our Word, We Dream Big, We Care For Each Other, and We Model The Way. The Volunteer of the Year Awards are also awarded by nomination from the entire CS Community, and are given for several categories, including to individual volunteers, company group volunteers, and for the REACH innovation award. The nomination forms are officially open for both the CS Way Values Awards and the Volunteer of the Year Awards, so be sure to nominate the companies or individuals you feel made a special impact for our Scholars this past year! As a Chicago Scholars Alum from the Class of 2019, Yezenia Sandoval, M.A remembers the feeling of being in CS as being part of "a community with the shared goal of leveraging education as a way to give back to our families and communities." Since her graduation with both her Bachelor's and Masters degrees from the University of Michigan, Yezenia has made it her mission to continue the experience she had as a Scholar to give back to young adults through her work as a Dual Program Manager at Urban Alliance. Calling all volunteers! With our new Scholar application coming to a close for this year, we're gearing up to head into the interview stage of our program application process - our New Scholar Selection Days, and we need you to help us interview students for the Chicago Scholars Class of 2030! Each year, we receive more than 1,000 applications from prospective Scholars, with around 800 progressing on to be interviewed for the program. Volunteers make up an integral part of this new Scholar selection process, helping our Dream Team to conduct interviews with students and select the new Scholar Class of 2030.
