I had a great time last week when I joined Per Lange's podcast. We talked a bit about how I got into tech and how I ended up studying at the university in Rome. We then chatted about organizing Hackathons, and about developer productivity and yes, of course we also talked about AI 😄 (and more specifically, what we're doing at Red Hat around these subjects). 🎉 We Won the Google & Cillers Hackathon! 🎉 Yesterday, my incredible team, Ria Raj, Mithun Peddakalva, Daniel Larsson and I participated in the Google & Cillers Hackathon, tackling one of the managers' biggest challenges: last-minute scheduling disruptions due to employee sickness. Using cutting-edge technologies like Google OR-Tools, Gemini AI, and a mobile SMS service, we built an innovative solution that stood out and secured us the WIN! 🏆 😁 Here's what we achieved: ✅ Real-Time Scheduling Updates: Employees who call in sick can now notify their managers via SMS. This triggers an automatic schedule update and sends SMS alerts to other employees who can fill the shift. Available employees can respond directly, ensuring seamless coverage. ✅Predictive Scheduling Insights: Leveraging historical sickness data and trends, we developed a predictive model using Scikit-learn to forecast potential sick leaves. This helps managers proactively prepare, optimizing both operational efficiency and employee satisfaction. ✅Our solution directly addressed the Hackathon’s theme: improving employee scheduling by combining operational efficiency with employee satisfaction, all while leveraging the power of AI and optimization tools. This victory is a testament to teamwork, focus, and the immense potential of combining OR-Tools' optimization capabilities with Gemini AI's natural language processing. It was a fantastic experience, and we are thrilled to have showcased these technologies' paradigm-shifting possibilities. Thank you to Google, Cillers - especially to Per Lange and Peder Linder, and the amazing jury: ⭐️ Anders Kronander, Engineering Manager, SKF ⭐️ Aurora Rogmark, AI/ML Engineer, Assa Abloy ⭐️ Christina Brinck, President Volvo Group Venture Capital ⭐️ Daniel Fäldt, Chief Digital Officer, SAAB ⭐️ Emil Kantelius, Director of AI Innovation & Research, Husqvarna Group ⭐️ Fredrik Ohlsson, Head of Digital Core, Volvo Cars  ⭐️ Jennie Ahlberg, Head of IT, Dollarstore ⭐️ Luba Weissmann, AI Director, Epiroc ⭐️ Magnus Malmström, CTO, Sandvik Manufacturing Solutions ⭐️ Magnus Wahlgård, Delivery Manager Future Factory, SKF ⭐️ Peter O Connell, Head of Product, Code Institute ⭐️ Peter Sundström, Head of AI Solutions, SAAB ⭐️ Rasmus Tammia, Program Manager for AI in Mining, Boliden ⭐️ Staffan Larsson, Architect and Leadership Team Member, Atlas Copco ⭐️ Viktor Jarnheimer, Founder, Proxify for this opportunity! Thank you so much to all the participants that attended Google & Cillers AI + OR Hackathon yesterday! It was an amazing experience to host this fantastic event with creative teams and a very interested jury! During the day, all teams really made dreams into reality. It is fascinating to observe how much a team can accomplish during a day - not always knowing the all the team members, the team members’ skills, AI or the provided tools in beforehand, but still manages to create a MVP. The hackathons with Cillers is in my opinion the best format to learn how to utilize AI in systems and is an optimal way for developers from different companies to share knowledge. I am so glad that there were participants from my hometown Linköping. In the picture you can see Martin Siklosi, Mattias Johansson and Emma Siklosi, which built a fantastic system. Companies worldwide - here you have amazing developers! A huge thanks to Per Lange, Peder Linder, Jacob Bergvall, Jesper Ericsson, Marcus Gube, Anton Popovine, Peter Molander, Mikael Kent, Calle Norling Markai, Mikael Cross, the teams, the jury, Cillers with partners, Google Cloud and all the other participants!

🎉 Celebrating 3 months of the "World Class Hackathons" podcast today! 👶 In these 90 days, I've hosted 45 interviews - learning more about hackathons with each episode. 🎙️ I've talked to tech experts from the world's leading tech companies like Google, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft, Salesforce, Palo Alto Networks, Snowflake, GitHub, Meta, RingCentral, SAP, Deel, Atlassian, and others. We have discussed how hackathons can help boost innovation, explore game-changing technology, quickly build MVPs, enhance coding skills, foster teamwork and creativity, and spark motivation and inspiration. 🎙️ The inspiration of doing 100 interviews comes from the founders of DoorDash, who conducted 100 interviews before building their first prototype. 🎙️ It's a fascinating challenge: No matter how much you think you know about a subject —conduct 100 interviews! Even if you've been involved for years and consider yourself highly skilled or even an authority - conduct 100 interviews. After 100 interviews, you're at a whole new level. It's practically impossible to be in the same place as before. 🎙️ My tip for anyone who wants to be better at something: conduct 100 interviews! Much of what I've learned about hackathons obviously comes from having arranged numerous events, listening to feedback, and iterating on the concept. The rest comes from all these skilled people who have shared their experiences and best practices in the podcast. Real-world iteration, in combination with interviews, is a great foundation for rapid learning and high velocity. A huge THANK YOU to every single one of my guests and to our audience, which continues to grow each week—we now have listeners in more than 25 countries! Here’s to continuing to explore and innovate together: SKÅL! 🍾 Listen here: https://lnkd.in/gaYXY8hn
