📝A Colombian startup called E-Dina has developed an innovative device called WaterLight which can generate electricity using just saltwater. How does it work? WaterLight uses a process called ionization to produce electricity: 1) Saltwater is poured inside the device (about 500 milliliters, or half a liter). 2) Inside the device, there are magnesium and copper plates. 3) The saltwater reacts with these metal plates, generating an electric current. 4) This electricity is then used to power an LED light or charge small devices through a USB port. Key features: - A single refill of saltwater can provide light for up to 45 days before needing a refill. - It can also charge phones, radios, or other small electronics via USB. - It is fully recyclable and has a lifespan of about 5,600 hours (roughly 2-3 years of use). - Eco-friendly & zero waste: Fully recyclable and free from toxic battery waste, making it a clean energy solution. - Lightweight and USB-compatible, it’s perfect for off-grid living, disaster relief, and survival kits. The device was created with input from the Wayúu people, an indigenous community in northern Colombia.
