Reposting a nod to #GovCommsDay from our Communications and Community Outreach Director! As government communicators, we work behind the scenes to keep people in Plano informed and engaged. It’s work we’re proud and grateful to do! To everyone in this field, know that our work makes a difference every day. Happy Government Communicators Day!
It feels like we spend a lot of time in our social media space aligning with "National Day of" this or that. Today, however, hits differently because 3CMA has designated it as Government Communicators Day. Government communicators support their organizations by providing timely, transparent and engaging information to the public. In my opinion, our work has three primary pillars/obligations to the public: Inform (tell the what), Educate (explain the why) and Engage (serve as a portal for listening and input). It has been my greatest honor to serve Plano (the organization) and by extension Plano (my local community) for nearly 10 years. Public service has by far been my most fulfilling career path. I'm equally honored to be entrusted to lead a team of exceptional government communications professionals. The skillsets on our team encompass video, multimedia, graphic design, social media, writing, event production, email marketing, advertising, internal communications and website development. When I say exceptional, I mean it. This team has won multiple state and national awards from leading communications organizations as well as government-specific organizations. Their dedication to upholding Plano's mission and values, guided by our City's strategic vision, is commendable. So today on Government Professionals Day, I'd like to say thank you to a terrific team and to the many friends I've made across the United States who have invested their communications careers into public service. Image: Photo of Plano's Communications & Community Outreach and Media Relations departments. Thank you to the two team members who've since moved on to the next things in life. We're looking forward to taking a fresh team photo when our newest team member joins us later this spring.
