The future is bright at Sherwood High School! Check out the post below by Economic Development Manager Bruce Coleman to learn more about SHS's Career and Technical Education (CTE) program and how area industry partners are joining with program leaders to help grow the next generation of skilled workers.
SHERWOOD HIGH SCHOOL INDUSTRY PARTNERSHIP MEETING – GROWING THE NEXT GEN OF SKILLED TALENT FOR METRO PORTLAND I was so excited to be able to attend today’s Sherwood School District/Industry Partnership Meeting which was held at the Sherwood High School campus. This was an opportunity for the Sherwood School District’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) program to bring together so many industry partners with the District’s very experienced CTE teachers in such areas as welding, computer sciences, architecture and other key fields. The focus of this program is to continue to grow and retain the next generation of our skilled workforce. I found it very rewarding to join so many small and large companies in the Sherwood/South Metro area who are participating in the SHS Industry Partnership. These included Lam Research, Intel Corporation, ALBINA MANAGEMENT COMPANY, Harris Thermal Transfer Products , Perlo Construction, Rosendin Electric, DWFritz Automation, PPM Technologies, NSI/Nuance Systems, Machine Sciences, GK Machining, Fortis Construction, Inc., Ascentec Engineering, LLC, the food/beverage/hospitality industry, the skilled trades, Portland General Electric, home builders and so many others. The group was organized by Elizabeth Barrett who leads the CTE program for the Sherwood School District - with the strong support from Adam Mitchell, the SHS Principal. I was delighted to learn of the progress that Liz and her team have made since last spring in working to create an apprenticeship program with the pipefitters union and the work that is underway on creating additional apprenticeship opportunities. This is a very important initiative to grow our future middle class. If your company is interested in learning more about how you can work with Sherwood Schools to help grow your skilled workforce, please reach out to Liz at ebarrett@sherwood.k12.or.us . If you would like to learn more about Sherwood and our focus on economic development, you can reach out to me colemanb@sherwoodoregon.gov. After October 4th, please contact Eric Rutledge at rutledgee@sherwoodoregon.gov

Schnitzer Properties and Development Partner Mainlander Investments Receive Unanimous Land Use Approval for Sherwood Commerce Center This week, Phase II of our Sherwood Commerce Center project in Sherwood, Ore., took a significant step forward. Following a public hearing, the city's planning commission unanimously approved our Land Use Application. City of Sherwood Economic Development Manager Bruce Coleman shared his excitement for the project and its potential impact on the local economy. "This is another example of the exciting progress that the City is making in collaboration with Schnitzer Properties to bring new businesses and jobs to our community," said Coleman. "I look forward to the continued journey to help create a more diversified economic base for Sherwood. Thank you, Schnitzer Properties, for investing, again, in Sherwood."
