About us

The City of Syracuse is the fifth largest city in New York State. It is the epicenter of New York and the Central New York region, which is home to more than one million inhabitants. Located in the agricultural richness of Onondaga County, the city is known for its tech industry such as the GENIUS NY tech accelerator competition; a rapidly growing Downtown business district; and its proximity to major anchor employment institutions, including five colleges and universities, and four hospital systems. The city features natural assets like the Onondaga Creekwalk and the Syracuse Inner Harbor. The skyline is marked by new businesses and historic architecture. Its neighborhoods are among the most diverse in New York State and it is ranked among the best places to live by U.S. News and World Reports. The City of Syracuse is a 4.5 hour drive to cities like New York City, Toronto, Boston, and Philadelphia. Syracuse is a four-season city with a short but colorful spring, hot summer, cinematic falls, and exciting snow-filled winters accompanied by activities and winter tourism throughout the city and region. • Mayor Walsh joined Chabad Lubavitch of CNY yesterday evening to assist Rabbi Rapoport to light the Menorah in Clinton Square. The tradition of lighting the giant Menorah is in its 43rd year. Mayor Walsh said, “It’s a special time in the community where people are coming together for the holidays. It’s a time to reflect and think about the spirit of Hanukkah, how we can all find our own inner light and bring our lights together, making the community a better place." Happy Hanukkah to all who celebrate!

  • Today, SCSD and Upstate Medical University announced a groundbreaking initiave that's set to bring expanded mental health services directly into schools. The five-year program, launching in January, will bring mental health professionals from SUNY Upstate directly to SCSD to offer support for students through on-site clinics and tele-health appointments. The new services will be funded through a $5.5 million federal grant. Together, Syracuse Schools and Upstate are addressing the growing need for mental health care by integrating services into the places where students spend most of their time. This program underscores the commitment to prioritizing student well-being and building a stronger, healthier community.
