ON THIS DAY: De Pere Fire Rescue got its first "Jaws of Life" on Feb. 24, 1977. The "Jaws of Life" are vital to our rescue toolkit. These hydraulic rescue tools give us the ability to free people from vehicles involved in accidents. Teamwork and precision make all the difference in these critical moments, and we train regularly with this tool. De Pere Fire Rescue's fleet currently includes three sets of these powerful tools—two hydraulic and one battery-powered—each weighing around 60 lbs.

After clearing the roads during a major snowstorm--long after the last flurries have fallen--there’s still other steps we take to help return City life to normal. Here's a look at some of the work De Pere Public Works did last night around 1 am to get help make our downtown easier to enjoy and support. We go out at this time after most businesses are closed and traffic is light, to remove piles of snow from the street terrace and make it easier for everyone to open car doors and reach businesses without stepping through/over large piles of snow. Thank you to everyone for your patience as we take care of all these quality-of-life items in our City! ❄️🌙💪

Today marks a special milestone as the De Pere Community Center turns 25 years old! 🎉 The De Pere Community Center held its Grand Opening Celebration on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, with an estimated 1,000 attendees enjoying music, hors d'oeuvres, and tours. While the formal grand opening was hosted on this day, the facility actually began its operations several weeks earlier, with staff moving in and programming for the public beginning in Dec. 1999. 🏡 Now, a quarter century later, the De Pere Community Center remains a vibrant hub for recreation, education, and enrichment. This 15,000-square-foot facility offers spacious activity areas, meeting rooms, kitchens, and more. It hosts a variety of programs, from fitness classes and dance lessons to bingo and toddler tumbling. 🏋️♂️🩰 Community members can also rent rooms for meetings, showers, receptions, and reunions. 🎊 Needless to say, the De Pere Community Center proudly lives up to its name, serving as a continuous epicenter of lifelong learning, health, fitness, recreation, enrichment, and celebration opportunities for our community and surrounding region. ❤️
