This afternoon, we came together to celebrate the graduation of our final cohort of the year from the @baltimore gas and Workforce Collaborative Program - including our Utility Infrastructure, Roofing, and Solar Training programs 🎉✨ The ceremony featured inspiring speeches from members of Civic Works’ Center for Sustainable Careers, Larry Laws - BGE’s Director of Utility Training, and our graduate representative class speakers: Joseph Wright - representing the Utility Infrastructure cohort, and Elina Jurado - representing the Roofing and Solar cohort. The event was filled with a spirit of recognition, reflection, and anticipation as these graduates prepare to take the next step in their career journeys. Thank you to everyone who has supported our BGE Workforce Collaborative trainees over the past year. We look forward to continuing to guide more trainees toward success in the year to come and beyond.

We're so glad to partner with Appalachian Field Services! Our YouthBuild participants gain valuable real world construction experience, and a growing number have been hired by AFS after graduation.
“Our partnership with Civic Works, Inc. gives us a unique opportunity to provide their students with real job site experience so they can use their training and skills which will help jumpstart sustainable careers,” said Ty Brown, director of operations at Appalachian Field Services (AFS). The partnership between AFS and Civic Works, Inc. has been growing for the past two years. Civic Works, Inc. gives a second chance to #Baltimore City youth, ages 16 to 24, who have dropped out of high school. Their YouthBuild program provides job placements, construction training, certifications, and assistance in earning a high school diploma or GED: https://lnkd.in/dFtCdSVb “When the Civic Works students come to our work sites, they have a chance to utilize the skills they already have while learning other valuable parts of the renovation business starting with demolition, drywall and insulation installation all the way through the finishing processes of a remodel,” Brown said. So far, AFS has hired three employees through Civic Works, Inc. Our goal is to grow that commitment to 10 a year.
