🌱 Last week, IFOAM Organics Europe actively participated in #MissionSoilWeek, the annual flagship event of the Horizon Europe Mission A Soil Deal for Europe. This initiative highlights the critical importance of #SoilHealth.
Here are some key takeaways from our staff members Lisa Sinnhuber, Maria Gernert, and Tyler Arbour, who represented us at the event:
🧑🌾 As proud partners of Climate Farm Demo, we co-hosted a stand with CONSULAI, where we connected with inspiring projects and exchanged ideas on advancing soil-related collaboration.
🌾On day two, we interacted with partners from SOILL-Startup and Eco-Ready, two innovative projects (of which we're part) addressing food system resilience and soil health, as well as with members of the Eco-Ready Living Lab “Czech Organics.” We also had the privilege of visiting the CRA-W Centre wallon de Recherches agronomiques, further enriching our understanding. The day left us inspired by the call to use interdisciplinary approaches in EU research.
🗣 At the Policy Forum "Healthy Soils for Europe" discussions covered vital topics, including soil data, the Soil Monitoring Law, carbon sequestration, and sustainable practices under the Common Agricultural Policy (#CAP). A consensus emerged on the urgent need for an integrated EU-wide soil health monitoring system.
Through our participation in EU projects, #OrganicsEurope remains dedicated to enhancing soil fertility and promoting soil carbon sequestration. Healthy soils are foundational to sustainable agriculture— every step of food production begins with the ground beneath us.🌍
