We are an Apple IT firm, but if you are a) in a windows environment and b) running crowdstrike as your primary MDR/EDR, this is helpful for your endpoints. If you are running an Azure Blob or EC2 instance, Microsoft and Amazon respectively have walkthroughs on how to remediate your instance. This isn’t the time in the IT field to dunk on folks or their tech stack. If anyone in #GreenvilleSC is stuck or short staffed and needs a hand, reach out. We will help.
If your Friday morning is starting out with the CrowdStrike snafu, with endpoints stuck in a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) loop, I tried to scream and shout about it on ye ol' Twitterverse -- heard from Brody, their Director of Overwatch, and he relayed the best suggested workaround right now (if you don't have BitLocker...) is deleting a faulty channel file within Safe Mode, Advanced Start Up (Command Prompt): del "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\CrowdStrike\C-00000291*.sys" The Reddit thread: https://lnkd.in/gy5UPWtg My chatter on Twitter: https://lnkd.in/gXFkGWNV

Do you have a business continuity plan to keep your employees paid and your lights on? Can you physically look at this written plan and evaluate it? To say “well if this happens to us we are all in trouble” is kind of….. not helpful? Of course we are all in trouble. Acknowledging we are all in trouble doesn’t help you conduct business and make payroll! What. Is. Your. Continuity. Plan? https://lnkd.in/gWHbZ6ku

I'm really excited to get to present a breakout to help SMB owners figure out why: *hardware strategies *cybersecurity tools *robust policy and governance... Should all be givens in ANY business, at ANY stage of development or growth. ***tl;dr - it isn't 1950 anymore. you don't sleep with your front door wide open at night because "who robs houses" and you shouldn't punt cybersecurity down the road because "you aren't big enough to get hacked." Do you have money? Do you pay for things? Then you are just the type of target that a threat actor would use to make their quota and get paid for a day.*** #techtalkforthosewhodonttalktech ht: Tim Golden, Will Brooks, Adam Walter, Omar Elshamy, Kyle Hanslovan

What a great feature to deploy!
Google Chrome just took a giant leap to win m̶y̶ ̶h̶e̶a̶r̶t̶ the fight against session cookie theft. They released a new experimental feature called Device Bound Session Credentials (DBSC). We already know that c̶o̶o̶k̶i̶e̶ ̶m̶o̶n̶s̶t̶e̶r̶ attackers love session cookies because it's an easy way to gain access to your online accounts. They just steal the session cookie, insert it in their browser, and they can impersonate you. Attackers can easily bypass MFA by stealing the session cookie because the user already did all the work to authenticate! That all changes with Google’s new feature. DBSC binds your session cookie to your device, so if an attacker steals that cookie, it won’t matter anymore! It works like this: 1. When you authenticate to an application, your browser creates a new public/private key pair (the same tech behind passkeys). Your local device stores the private key while the application stores your public key. 2. Upon successful authentication, you receive a session cookie with a short timeout period. This session cookie is bound to your device thanks to that public/private key pair. 3. When requests to the application are made, the browser must ensure the session cookie is present and not expired. If neither is met, the browser will try to refresh the cookie with proof of possession of the private key, which is only available on the local device. So the attackers are out of luck! Regardless of what you think of Google, this feature must be adopted widely as quickly as possible. It will significantly increase the difficulty level for attackers, especially when FIDO2 MFA is used as the application's primary MFA factor. ------------------------------ 📝 Get weekly security updates in my WeekendByte newsletter. 👆Sign up with the blog link at the top of this post.

1 Corinthians 15:12-19 The Resurrection of the Dead [12] Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? [13] But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. [14] And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain. [15] We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified about God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised. [16] For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised. [17] And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. [18] Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. [19] If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied.

Number of breach victims dropped 16% in 2023, but now the bad news… "The good news is the number of individuals impacted by a data breach in 2023 dropped 16% compared to the previous year. The awful news is the number of data compromises is up 78%, a new all-time percentage increase high." Having a great cybersecurity solution without a solid overall IT strategy is like having SimpliSafe install a security system on a tent. https://lnkd.in/g3Y8kFaH #cybersecurity
