🌿 CO2 PACMAN Rooting Lab – Day 2 Highlights 🌍✨ Day 2 on Elba Island showcased how local industries, renewable energy, and circular economy can drive a sustainable future! 💡 Sustainability at Acqua dell’Elba: We visited Acqua dell’Elba, a family-run perfume company blending craftsmanship with sustainability for over 25 years. As a major local employer, they’re committed to environmental initiatives and even let participants bottle their own perfumes! ⚡ Renewable Energy in Action: The Renewable Energy Community of Elba is leading the way with plans to install 100 new plants generating 2MW of clean energy in the next two years, pushing Elba closer to climate neutrality. 🍇 Eco-Friendly Winemaking: A local winery amazed us with its underwater wine maturation technique, eco-tourism initiatives, and sustainable practices like recyclable materials and amphorae winemaking. A perfect blend of tradition and innovation! ♻️ Circular Economy on the Move: We wrapped up the day with a look at a waste separation system on ferries, showing how islands can tackle waste and marine sustainability creatively. 🌍💚 Elba is proving small islands can lead big changes! 🌿 CO2 PACMAN 3rd Rooting Lab – Day 1 Highlights 🌍✨ Day 1 of the CO2 PACMAN Rooting Lab in Portoferraio, Elba kicked off with powerful voices and inspiring visions for a climate-neutral future! 🚀 Official Opening: The lab was inaugurated by Mayor Tiziano Nocentini, who reaffirmed Elba’s dedication to sustainability, followed by Curzio Cervelli, Coordinator of the Interreg Euro-MED Joint Secretariat, who stressed the program’s pivotal role in shaping climate policies across the Mediterranean. Umberto Mazzantini, environmental journalist and Legambiente leader, reminded us that behavioral change is key to carbon neutrality. 💡 Innovative Solutions on Display: From renewable energy and sustainable mobility to waste management and ecosystem-based solutions, the CO2 PACMAN Tool stole the spotlight. This cutting-edge tool showcased how Elba’s targeted interventions could reduce emissions by an equivalent of 9,200 hectares of forest absorption capacity—a transformative step toward climate neutrality! 🎮 A Glimpse Into the Future: Participants experienced Elba’s ecological transition firsthand through a Virtual Reality (VR) experience, offering an immersive view of the island’s path to sustainability. 🍇 Sustainability in Practice: A highlight of the day was the revival of an ancient, chemical-free grape maturation technique, proving that traditional methods can meet modern sustainability goals, boosting local wine production while protecting the environment. 🤝 Community at the Core: The day wrapped up with an inspiring session led by Silvia Moroni, sustainability expert and eco-influencer, engaging citizens in discussions on the power of community participation to achieve a sustainable and climate-resilient future for Elba.
