Meet Lizzie Verheyden! Lizzie joined the COAR team in our Santa Rosa office this past August. She originally hails from Bend, Oregon but is a proud Cal Bear! Growing up, Lizzie wanted to be an artist, and she still loves to draw and paint in her free time. Nature is her biggest source of inspiration and often goes on hikes or watches the sky when she needs a creative outlet. She incorporates this same passion for art and creativity in her work as a designer. When she isn’t exploring Sonoma County’s hiking trails or adding to her latest painting, Lizzie loves to travel. This past summer, she backpacked through Europe with her brother and says that the Lofoten Islands in Norway were her favorite stop! We are excited to announce that we have been selected to deliver the design-build California Highway Patrol Baldwin Park Replacement Facility, alongside our partner Pinner Construction Co., Inc.! This innovative facility will provide new workspaces, technology, and storage for all current CHP officers, staff, and visitors - with room for future growth and expansion. As a LEED Silver-certified building, it will incorporate modern sustainable features and cutting-edge technology ensuring a safe, functional, and secure environment for all employees.  We are proud to be working alongside the California Department of General Services, the Division of the State Architect, and the Office of the State Fire Marshal to deliver this facility. The project is made possible by the hard work and collaboration of our entire team of consultants, which includes local and small businesses and disabled veteran business enterprises. Meet Nick Goldschmidt! Nick joined the COAR team after graduating from Cal Poly SLO, but some of you may recognize him from his summer internship back in 2023! Nick grew up in sunny San Diego but was bitten by the travel bug during his semester abroad in Barcelona and says in another life he would love to spend every day traveling around the world with friends (he can name all 197 countries after all!). Nick’s favorite quote is from the famous Master Oogway, "Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it is called the present." We are thrilled to announce that we are working with the City of Rocklin to design their new Fire Station No. 22! Station 22 will serve the growing community and bolster response times, specifically for the area of the freeway that encompasses the Sierra College Campus. Once completed, the station will be equipped with state-of-the-art tools, space for training sessions, and will incorporate sustainable materials and energy-efficient systems. To celebrate 2024 coming to a close, our Santa Rosa and San Diego offices joined together for an action-packed day of COARlympics and perhaps our most competitive white elephant yet! It was a blast getting closer as a team and watching “The Sunnysides” win the gold - proving their teamwork through relay races, one-handed tower building, blind folded popsicle sticks pickup and a formidable obstacle COAR-se! This December we hosted our first community donation drive, gathering personal hygiene items and fleece blankets for those in need this holiday season! We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to our communities who generously donated items to the drive. We also want to thank our COAR Team, who worked hard to assemble kits and blankets will make a difference in our communities! Santa Rosa donations are on their way to Petaluma People Services Center, an organization that offers counseling, economic sustainability, youth programming, homelessness prevention and access to fresh food for the Petaluma Community. San Diego donations are headed to Dreams for Change, an organization that offers innovative and cost-effective programs that empower and stabilize the lives of underserved families and individuals across San Diego. Check it out! The Morgan Hill Butterfield Fire Station receives its finishing touches as construction draws closer to the finish line. COAR worked closely with California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) and the City of Morgan Hill on this fully electric station for the growing community of Morgan Hill that features space for two fire apparatuses and living quarters for a full crew. On Friday, November 8, construction officially started on the new Sonoma County Coroner’s Office and Public Health Lab Facility! COAR team members attended the groundbreaking ceremony for this new facility that will replace the current outdated facilities and co-locate them in a singular building. We are so excited to break ground on this project for the Sonoma County Community and beyond! Meet Ricky! Ricky is a Job Captain at our San Diego office, but originally hails from Mexico! From a young age, Ricky knew he wanted to be an architect, and if that didn’t work out, he could also see himself as a Lego set designer *dream job*. Speaking of Lego – outside of work, Ricky enjoys building Lego sets, spending time with family, and going on walking adventures with his dog, Sheba – a hundred pound German Shephard beauty! When he’s not dreaming up new designs , you can find Ricky jamming on the drums or playing soccer. He also has a passion for travel with his favorite cities so far being Paris and Tokyo.
