Build and deploy fullstack applications with Callie!

About us

When I was learning to code, I spent a maximum of a week or two working on a single project. I made all the quick portfolio projects: weather app, movie list, online clothing store. When I started my software engineering position, however, I realized how much my projects were lacking when it comes to: error handling, testing, logging, security, project management, documentation, etc. So, I decided to start creating fullstack development workshops for entry-level developers to bridge the gap between their coding bootcamp, computer science degree, self-learning, etc. and what is expected of them on professional software development team. I have big plans for the future of Coding with Callie! So, check the website for all updated offerings 🙃

Updates

  • When I was learning to code, I thought a project was complete when I deployed it... When I started working in tech, I realized how wrong I was 🤯 If you want to learn more about the 'what happens when something goes wrong after I deploy my code' part of software development, join the Coding with Callie live stream Thursday, December 19 at 8PM 🕗 Mandi Walls will be teaching us the basics of incident management 🚨

I had so much fun coding with Brian Jenney before the holidays! He walked me through a simple fullstack application using Next.js 🚀👩🏻💻 If you want to code alone with us, check out the recording: https://lnkd.in/eyvcaFKK

My Project Planning Tool is looking really nice. This update, I've worked on styling my project and making it responsive on different screen sizes. I really enjoyed this part, testing out color schemes and finding one that I really liked. Coding with Callie #BuildingInPublic What I've learned: I learned how to use Charka UI's custom theme. Once you've created a theme you pass it to your chakra provider, then you can add the fonts and styling you want. Chakra UI also conveniently uses layer styles, which allows you to save a combination of stylings attributes which you can apply on components you'd like to have a similar design. What I've Improved: It's always refreshing to practice my responsive design and using media queries to ensure that my application looks great on all screen sizes. Now that my app look great, I have to go through and make sure there aren't any bugs or unexpected behaviors. I'll post back once I've done a couple of manual end-to-end testing.

  • Don't miss Brian Jenney's talk on Next.js tonight at 8PM EST! Note: We're going to switch things up a bit and try out a livestream to YouTube so the link to join has changed. You can join here: https://lnkd.in/eS7Rrjuc

For the 7th week challenge of the Coding with Callie #Deployinpublic cohort, we added a front-end UI that works with our API so we can create and edit our database records. We refactored the infrastructure so that the load balancer directs to port 80 or 3000, depending on whether we want to connect to the UI or the API itself. We also implemented the build and deploy jobs for the front end to Github actions. Ultimately we added a Delete feature to prove that you can do subsequent deployments to a running application.

  • Hi all! I'm not feeling well today so I'm postponing this session to Tuesday!

Do you avoid testing your code because it seems too time consuming and difficult?! 👩🏻💻 ...well let's make an effort together to stop doing that! Writing tests actually SAVES you time and headaches 🪄 Join me this Thursday at 8PM EST as I add unit tests to our NestJS CRUD library application 🧪 Maybe we'll even try to add testing on push to GitHub!
