Yesterday JWU Alumni Relations member Brooke Gordon, '19 stopped by the Bowen Center to talk to students in Professor Elizabeth (Beth) Flynn-Carey's advertising class about Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island's summer internship program. Brooke was a Graphic Design major, and interned for BCBSRI during her senior year. After her internship, she landed a full time position and is now an Associate Graphic Designer, working within the Corporate Communications department on a wide range of print, digital and social media design projects for BCBSRI subscribers and providers. Brooke gave the students great advice on applying for internships and reviewed all of the internship positions being offered this summer. Thank you Brooke for giving back to our students as a proud wildcat!

👉🏼👉🏼Follow our Instagram Stories this week @jwupvdbiz with our Senior student Cyrell Faraon who was selected as one of the American Advertising Federation’s Most Promising Students! Did you know that way back in 1997, the AAF began the Most Promising Student program to connect the advertising industry with the nation’s top college students. Since then, nearly a thousand students from colleges and universities across the country have participated in this premier event. Students attribute the success in obtaining a job after graduation to the distinction that comes from participating in the Most Promising program. Each year, the selected Most Promising Students have an opportunity to meet with professionals from top advertisers, media companies and advertising agencies at an exclusive Most Promising Students Recruiters Expo. Held in conjunction with the Expo, a Building Bridges Luncheon and Industry Immersion program provide invaluable networking and learning experiences. At the Building Bridges Luncheon, students engage with leading executives and industry pioneers, providing an opportunity for networking and mentorship. The Industry Immersion component of the program allows students to experience the excitement of a career in advertising firsthand by visiting major advertisers, ad agencies and media companies and attending workshops led by industry leaders. We are so excited for Cyrell and can’t wait to hear all the highlights this week in NYC!

This week students in Professor Diane Santurri’s Marketing Analytics class met business owner ANDREA VALENTINI, who is a material, interior, furniture and bag designer, focused on plant-based materials. Andrea makes the world’s first cactus leather custom bags, and shared her expertise as a business owner for 20 years with the students. As part of the class, there is a Stukent marketing analytics simulation that the students are working on that features a hand bag manufacturer so Andrea’s insights were very appreciated for this class!
