If you’re an athlete or even a professional sports fan, chances are you’ve seen some pretty brutal injuries. One such injury—knee dislocation—is rare but serious and typically the result of high-impact trauma, as seen in professional sports and even motor vehicle accidents. Generally a pretty stable joint, the knee has four main ligaments connecting the femur and tibia: the ACL, PCL, MCL, and LCL. A knee dislocation can not only damage these ligaments, but also cause injury to the surrounding nerves and arteries, making it a medical emergency. For more, check out “Dislocated Knee Surgery 101: A Comprehensive Guide,” written by Jessica Migala and clinically reviewed by our Moin Salah, MD, MBA Salah. This article covers everything you need to know about knee dislocation from initial injury to long-term prognosis, including: 🩻Understanding Knee Dislocation 🩻Emergency Management 🩻Treatment Options 🩻Rehabilitation and Recovery 🩻Long-term Prognosis

Ask anyone in healthcare what's needed to deliver the best possible patient experience and you'll get plenty of answers. Dozens. But to consistently care for patients at a high level, we need to consistently care for the clinicians who take care of them. That's at the core of what Commons Clinic CEO and Co-founder Nick Aubin talks about it in this Zoom video clip. Nick is the latest healthcare leader (and DeepScribe customer) to join our Zoom video conversations - here, he breaks down how Commons Clinic attracts and satisfies orthopedic surgeons, and where technology comes into play. Check out the video. Then tell us: What are your thoughts on the link between physician satisfaction and the patient experience? #ambientAI #orthopedics #leadershipclip #clinicianwellbeing #patientexperience

If you’ve been putting up with neck or back pain for a while, you may be considering surgery. But how do you know what procedure is right for you? Learning more about different surgical options is a great place to start. Spinal fusion surgery is a common and effective treatment option for various neck and back conditions. In fact, approximately 400,000 spinal fusions are performed annually in the U.S. alone. Written by Andrea P., MD, and clinically reviewed by Benjamin Schwartz, MD, MBA, “Spinal Fusion 101: Understanding Spinal Fusion Surgery” covers everything you need to know about this very common procedure, including: 🩻What is Spinal Fusion Surgery? 🩻Conditions treated with Spinal Fusion Surgery 🩻Preparing for surgery 🩻Risks and Complications 🩻 Recovery and Aftercare

Have you ever heard of PAO surgery? One of the lesser-known hip procedures, Periacetabular Osteotomy (PAO), isn’t right for everyone. But for many, it can significantly reduce pain and preserve the life of their natural hip. If you’re between the ages of 20 and 55, have a diagnosis of hip dysplasia, failed conservative treatment, and don’t yet have evidence of hip arthritis, you may be a good candidate. “PAO 101: Everything You Need to Know About PAO Surgery,” written by Angela Myers and clinically reviewed by our very own PAO expert, Tigran Garabekyan, MD, covers everything you need to know about this specialized procedure, including: 🩻What is PAO Surgery? 🩻Hip Joint Anatomy and Function 🩻Hip Dysplasia 🩻How PAO works 🩻PAO Recovery and Outcomes

I wrote about surgery options for sciatica for Commons Clinic, interviewing orthopedic surgeons and pain management specialists. I still deal with sciatic pain from pregnancy, so it was helpful research for myself on treatment and therapy options available. And please reach out if you need a health writer for your next project! https://lnkd.in/gWBX9bEE

👉 "You actually can't build a better product for patients without first building a better product for physicians." That's from Nick Aubin, CEO and Co-founder of Commons Clinic, a practice that's resetting the way patients receive musculoskeletal care - think an organized one-stop shop for consults, surgery, PT, and more. Nick and the Commons Clinic team have "phenomenal specialists" to deliver that care, and are well aware that those clinicians need the right environment, tools, and technology to do their job well - and really enjoy doing it. What are your thoughts? Does excellent patient treatment begin with how well doctors are treated? Here it is, my conversation with Dutch Rojas for The Surgeon's Record presented by Commons Clinic. For independent physicians, these could be viewed as dark times in healthcare. Declining reimbursements, increasing administrative burdens, and rising overhead costs contribute to a loss of autonomy and control. But, at some point, physicians have to stop feeling sorry for themselves, roll up their sleeves, and get to work. Dutch Rojas isn’t a physician – but he’s become one of our biggest advocates. Never afraid to speak his mind, Dutch is the kind of contrarian I can get behind – he backs up his opinions with facts and well-reasoned logic. Together with the PHA and others, he’s challenging outdated regulations that limit physician independence and lead to unintended consequences that harm the system. We covered everything, including: 🩻How does a Dutch-Mexican former Marine find himself in the thick of American healthcare innovation? 🩻At what point do physicians have their “awakening” that allows them to start thinking about and understanding the business of healthcare? 🩻Where do we stand on reversing the moratorium on physician-owned hospitals (POHs)? 🩻How do physicians maintain independence while finding true partners who help de-risk challenging the status quo (without treating docs like means to an end)? 🩻What role do ASCs have to play in the current healthcare economic climate? What are some “outside-the-box” things you’re thinking about when it comes to innovating the business of healthcare? 🩻What are three simple steps any doctor can take to join the movement and help support the independent practice of medicine? 🎙️ Listen, comment, share. #healthcare #medicine #health #healthcarereform #healthcareeconomics #healthpolicy

There’s enough doom and gloom around the practice of medicine, especially for doctors who want to maintain independence. How do physicians wrangle a seat at the table? What are some steps doctors can take to shape the future of medicine while capturing and delivering value? Dutch Rojas is a healthcare iconoclast. Born in the Netherlands, Dutch is a former Marine who’s made a career challenging the status quo. He’s started and exited several healthcare businesses and has been a proponent of direct contracting for years. For our third episode of The Surgeon’s Record Webinar series presented by Commons Clinic, Dutch and I discuss how doctors can be change agents by thinking several steps ahead. Our wide-ranging conversation includes an update on physician-owned hospitals, steps every doctor can take to support independent practices, and how/when physicians should have their business of medicine “awakening.” The episode drops tomorrow, November 7th, at 12 pm PT / 3 pm ET! #medicine #healthcare #healthcareinnovation #health
