As we begin National Poverty Awareness Month, let's talk numbers - but remember, these aren't just statistics. They're our neighbors, coworkers, and community members. In 2023, nearly 295,445 Utahns lived below the poverty line - that's more than the entire population of Southwest Utah. While the national poverty rate decreased, Utah saw an increase, with over 21,000 additional Utahns experiencing poverty last year. This January, we're committed to raising awareness about poverty in our state and working toward solutions. We love celebrating our network partners and the big impact they make in their communities. This month we're highlight the Bear River Association of Governments (BRAG)! Individuals in their Brigham City office are embodying the spirit of partnership by building partnerships to address homelessness. Their team has partnered with local restaurants to provide meal vouchers for individuals experiencing homelessness and collaborating with local factories to gather donations for their office food pantry, warm clothing for homeless individuals, and financial contributions. Way to go BRAG for bringing your community together and fighting poverty through creative solutions! BRAG helps those experiencing poverty in Box Elder, Cache, and Rich Counties.
